Assign the point feature symbol

ArcGIS for AutoCAD allows you to symbolize point feature layers with points, AutoCAD blocks, or COGO points when using Civil 3D.

When the Assign Symbol tools are used with document feature layers, the selected features of the chosen feature layer can be replaced with the specified element type. In addition to this replacement behavior, with web point feature layers, this tool also sets the default point element type, such as a specific block or COGO point, as the default symbol for the web feature layer. The default element type is used when new web point features are synchronized or refreshed from the feature service.

When working in Civil 3D, you can specify an AECC_COGO_POINT as the default symbol. When a COGO point is selected, you can use the capabilities of Civil 3D to manage the symbols used for those COGO points such as adding them to a point group and specifying the symbol used by that point group.

  1. Add a point feature layer to ArcGIS for AutoCAD.
  2. In the Esri Contents user interface, right-click the point layer, and click Assign Symbol.

The Assign default symbol user interface is displayed.

  3. Choose the default element type to use from the drop-down menu.
  4. Select the Apply button to change the point symbols of all selected point features from that layer.

Note:
In standard AutoCAD, web point feature layers by default are symbolized automatically by matching the name of the AutoCAD block to the name of the CAD layer where the GIS layer resides. For example, a GIS feature layer named Valves resides on the CAD layer named ESRI_Valves. Naming the block ESRI_Valves indicates to ArcGIS for AutoCAD to use that block as the point symbol.

The default point feature entity created in ArcGIS for AutoCAD when working in Civil 3D is a COGO point.

Using the Assign Symbol tools allows you to override these default element types of point feature layers.
