Add a map or image layer

You can add web layers to your drawing from web sources such as ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, as well as a stand-alone ArcGIS Server using the Add Data user interface or Add Data by URL options. Layers from a stand-alone ArcGIS Server can only be added using the Add Data by URL option.

Add data

To add a map or image layer using the Add Data user interface, complete the following steps:

1. On the ribbon, click the Add Data button.
2. Sign in to the organization that contains the layer you want to add.
3. Find the layer in the Add Data window, and click the upper portion of the layer thumbnail image.

   The layer is added to your drawing.

Add data by URL

To add a map or image layer using the Add Data by URL option, complete the following steps:

1. On the ribbon, click the Add Data drop-down button.
2. From the split menu, click the Add Data by URL button.
3. In the Add data by URL window, provide a URL that points to the layer, and click the Add button.

   

   The layer is added to your drawing.
