After deploying the solution, organizations with no sewer data can immediately begin mapping their combined sewer systems using GPS or digitizing data with web or desktop software. Organizations with existing spatial combined sewer data can load it and begin using the apps.
In this topic, you will learn how to use the solution by assuming the role of a user and performing the following workflows.
Add data in the field
If you have a mobile centric workforce, using a mobile device may be the best way to collect new data or validate existing data. In the following workflows, you will assume the role of a mobile worker who wants to collect data in the field.
Note:
Your interface may vary depending on the type of mobile device that you use.
Collect manholes
To add a manhole from a mobile device, complete the following steps:
- Download ArcGIS Field Maps onto your mobile device.
- Open ArcGIS Field Maps and sign in to your ArcGIS organization.
- Tap the Combined Sewer Field Editor map to open it.
- Tap Add
.
- From the list of features, search for Manhole and select Manhole from the results.
- Drag the crosshairs to the correct location, if necessary, and then tap Update Point to place the manhole.
A point is added to your location.
- Fill in any attributes.
- When you are finished, at the upper right, tap the check mark or Submit.
- To create another manhole with the same attributes, complete the following steps:
- Ensure that the last collected manhole is selected.
- At the next manhole location, tap the Copy button at the bottom of the screen to create a copy of the previously added manhole at this new location.
- Update the attributes as necessary, and then tap the check mark or Submit.
Collect cleanouts
To add a cleanout from a mobile device, complete the following steps:
- Download ArcGIS Field Maps onto your mobile device.
- Open ArcGIS Field Maps and sign in to your ArcGIS organization.
- Tap the Combined Sewer Field Editor map to open it.
- Tap Add
.
- From the list of features, search for Cleanout and select Cleanout from the results.
- Drag the crosshairs to the correct location, if necessary, and then tap Update Point to place the cleanout.
A point is added to your location.
- Fill in any attributes.
- When you are finished, at the upper right, tap the check mark or Submit.
- To create another cleanout with the same attributes, complete the following steps:
- Ensure that the last collected cleanout is selected.
- At the next cleanout location, tap the Copy button at the bottom of the screen to create a copy of the previously added cleanout at this new location.
- Update the attributes as necessary, and then tap the check mark or Submit.
Collect a combined sewer overflow
To add a combined sewer overflow from a mobile device, complete the following steps:
- Download ArcGIS Field Maps onto your mobile device.
- Open ArcGIS Field Maps and sign in to your ArcGIS organization.
- Tap the Combined Sewer Field Editor map to open it.
- Tap Add
.
- From the list of features, search for Combined Sewer Overflow and select Combined Sewer Overflow from the results.
- Drag the crosshairs to the correct location, if necessary, and then tap Update Point to place the combined sewer overflow.
A point is added to your location.
- Fill in any attributes.
- When you are finished, at the upper right, tap the check mark or Submit.
- To create another combined sewer overflow with the same attributes, complete the following steps:
- Ensure that the last collected combined sewer overflow is selected.
- At the next combined sewer overflow location, tap the Copy button at the bottom of the screen to create a copy of the previously added combined sewer overflow at this new location.
- Update the attributes as necessary, and then tap the check mark or Submit.
Collect a catch basin
To add a catch basin from a mobile device, complete the following steps:
- Download ArcGIS Field Maps onto your mobile device.
- Open ArcGIS Field Maps and sign in to your ArcGIS organization.
- Tap the Combined Sewer Field Editor map to open it.
- Tap Add
.
- From the list of features, search for Catch Basin and select Catch Basin from the results.
- Drag the crosshairs to the correct location, if necessary, and then tap Update Point to place the catch basin.
A point is added to your location.
- Fill in any attributes.
- When you are finished, at the upper right, tap the check mark or Submit.
- To create another catch basin with the same attributes, complete the following steps:
- Ensure that the last collected catch basin is selected.
- At the next catch basin location, tap the Copy button at the bottom of the screen to create a copy of the previously added catch basin at this new location.
- Update the attributes as necessary, and then tap the check mark or Submit.
Add data in the web
In the workflows below, you will be taking the role of an editor adding data in the web.
Add pipes to connect features
To add a pipe using ArcGIS Web Editor, complete the following steps:
- In a browser, sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Combined Sewer Editor web map.
- From the item page, click Open in Web Editor to launch the editing app.
- Click Snapping options
on the general toolbar to configure snapping for the web app.
Tip:
For example, check the check boxes to turn on snapping for Manholes and Sewer Gravity Main.
- Locate the manhole that you added in the previous workflow.
- On the editing toolbar, click the Create features button
.
- In the Create features pane, search for and click Combined Sewer Gravity Main.
Note:
If the any features are grayed out, ensure that you are zoomed in close enough, features are scale dependent. - Snap to the manhole by hovering over the point and clicking to start the line.
- Draw a line from the manhole to the appropriate manhole and snap by hovering over the point and double-clicking to finish the sketch.
The Create features pane appears, allowing you to update attributes.
- In the Create features pane, update the attributes.
- Click Create.
Use the Combined Sewer Dashboard app
As a member of the utility, you want to use the Combined Sewer Dashboard app to get a comprehensive view of your combined sewer system assets.
- In the browser, sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Combined Sewer Dashboard app.
- From the item page, click Open Dashboard.
- Review the combined sewer system statistics on the dashboard.
Add data in ArcGIS Pro
If you have known locations of assets or as-built drawings to work from, the following workflows can demonstrate how to use ArcGIS Pro to add data to your combined sewer system.
In these workflows, you will assume the role of an editor who wants to edit data in ArcGIS Pro.
Note:
Ensure that you have created the Combined Sewer Data Manager ArcGIS Pro project before completing the following workflows.
Add manholes and pipes
To add manholes and pipes to the map in ArcGIS Pro, complete the following steps:
- Start ArcGIS Pro and open the Combined Sewer Data Manager project that you created previously.
- Locate the area where you will add the manhole and pipe.
- On the ribbon, click the Edit tab, and then, in the Features group, click Create.
The Create Features pane appears.
- In the Create Features pane search field, type Manhole, select the Manhole template, and add the manhole to the map.
- On the Map tab, in the Selection group, click Attributes and fill in the attributes.
- Repeat these steps to add the remaining manholes to the map.
- In the Create Features pane search field, type Combined Sewer Gravity Main.
- Select the Combined Sewer Gravity Main template from the Templates list.As a best practice, digitize in the direction that wastewater flows.
- To begin digitizing the pipe, hover over to snap and then click the first manhole.
- Hover over the next manhole to snap to it, and then double-click to complete the sketch.
- Repeat these steps to draw in the remaining pipes between the rest of the manholes.
Add features from an as-built drawing
To add assets from an as-built drawing, complete the following steps:
- If necessary, start ArcGIS Pro and open the Combined Sewer Data Manager project and the map that you created previously.
- On the Map tab, in the Layers group, click Add Data.
- Browse to the location of the as-built drawing, select it, and click OK to add it to the map.
- In the Contents pane, select the image.
The Raster Layer contextual tab appears on the ribbon.
- On the Appearance tab, in the Effects group, change Layer Transparency to 50%.
- On the Imagery tab, in the Alignment group, click Georeferencing.
- On the Georeferencing tab, in the Adjust group, click Add Control Points.
- Add a minimum of two control points to connect your image to your known map positions.
- After you have added all the control points, browse to the Georeferencing tab and click Save.
- In the Features group, click Create.
The Create Features pane appears.
- Select an asset from the template list and add the asset to the map where it corresponds to the georeferenced as-built drawing.
- On the Map tab, in the Selection group, click Attributes and fill in the attributes.
- After digitizing is complete, remove the image from the Contents pane.
