Basic (Media Map)

Note:
The functionalities of the ArcGIS Instant Apps Basic and Media Map templates have been merged into a single template. You can still configure existing Media Map apps, but the Media Map template is now removed from the home page app gallery. Use the Basic (Media Map) template to create new apps. On the My Apps page, all Media Map and Basic apps appear in one folder named Basic (Media Map).

Use the Basic (Media Map) template to maximize the potential of a map with map navigation tools, time animation, and swipe. Display and animate time-enabled data to highlight changes over time. Set the option to disable scroll and configure hover pop-ups to optimize the app for an embedded experience. Enable the print tool to allow users to save the map to a file for exporting.

Examples

Choose this template to create an app for use cases such as the following examples:

  • Use descriptive text in a map by including an information panel with a title and description or a splash screen to help familiarize your audience with the content.
  • Enable tools on the map including a legend, layer list, basemap toggle button, swipe, time slider, and more.
  • Allow app viewers to choose between two basemaps to experience different perspectives of the map data.

Data requirements

The Basic (Media Map) template has no specific data requirements.

App capabilities

The following list includes key settings and capabilities that you can configure to create an app with this template:

  • Bookmarks—Allow users to zoom and pan to a collection of preset extents that are saved in the map.
  • Disable scroll—Prevent the map from zooming when app users scroll. Disable scrolling in the map if the app will be used primarily on a mobile device or embedded in a website.
  • Basemap toggle—Change the look of the map by switching to a different basemap.
  • Layer list—Display a list of layers with buttons to turn visibility off and on in the map or scene.
  • Navigation boundary—Restrict map navigation to a particular region and zoom scale to maintain focus on key map areas. You can also rotate the map or prevent map rotation.
  • Language switcher—Provide translations for custom text and create a multilingual app.
  • Export—Capture an image (PDF, JPG, or PNG) from the app that a user can save.
  • Sketch tools—Draw graphics on the map to select features to add to a list. Users can also use features from a layer to select intersecting features from the input layer.
  • Swipe tool—Compares two layers in the map by viewing them simultaneously.

All Instant Apps templates include settings for a Home button and zoom controls, a legend, and the capability to search the map or data.
