Bookmark places (Map Viewer)

Bookmarks provide shortcuts to places on a map. As a map author, you create them based on the current location, scale, and rotation of the map. When others click a bookmark, the map zooms to that location.

Create a bookmark

To create a bookmark, complete the following steps:

  1. Verify that you are signed in and, if you want to save your changes, that you have privileges to create content.
  2. In Map Viewer, open the map.
  3. Navigate the map to the location and scale at which you want to create the bookmark.
  4. On the Contents (dark) toolbar, click Bookmarks Bookmarks and click Add bookmark.
  5. Enter a title for the bookmark and click Add.

The bookmark is added to the list of bookmarks.

Go to an existing bookmark

To zoom the map to an existing bookmark, complete the following steps:

  1. In Map Viewer, open the map.
  2. On the Contents (dark) toolbar, click Bookmarks Bookmarks to open the Bookmarks pane.
  3. Click the name of the bookmark you want to zoom to.

The map zooms to the bookmark.

Update a bookmark

To update or delete an existing bookmark, complete the following steps:

  1. In Map Viewer, open the map.
  2. On the Contents (dark) toolbar, click Bookmarks Bookmarks to open the Bookmarks pane.
  3. Optionally, update a bookmark in the following ways:
    • Drag the Reorder handles Reorder of a bookmark to reorder the list.
    • Click Edit Edit next to a bookmark to rename it, enter a new name, and click Save.
    • Click Edit Edit next to the bookmark you want to delete, and click Delete.

Edit a bookmark thumbnail

You can choose whether the thumbnail of a bookmark displays the map extent or an image. To edit the bookmark thumbnail, complete the following steps:

  1. In Map Viewer, open the map.
  2. On the Contents (dark) toolbar, click Bookmarks Bookmarks to open the Bookmarks pane.
  3. Click Edit Edit next to the bookmark with the thumbnail you want to edit.
  4. Optionally, click Options Options on the thumbnail to edit it in any of the following ways:
    • Click Refresh thumbnail to refresh the map extent of the thumbnail.
    • Click Use image URL, enter the URL of the image, and click Add to use an image for the thumbnail.
    • Click Remove thumbnail to remove the thumbnail.
  5. Click Save to save the thumbnail.
