Netherlands

In November 2024, Esri discontinued the Advanced Demographics dataset sourced from data supplied by 4orange for the Netherlands. For this region, the Esri Standard Demographics dataset sourced from data supplied by Michael Bauer Research GmbH remains available.

Puerto Rico

School District Boundaries—A school district boundary from TIGER 2023 was added for Puerto Rico. However, as Puerto Rico has one school district, it does not appear in the geographic scale in ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App. See School District geographic boundaries and the Esri 2024 U.S. Demographics Release Notes (PDF) for more information.

United States

Esri 2024 U.S. Demographics are available for 14 geographic levels including all standard Census geographic levels (states, counties, census tracts, and block groups) as well as Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs), Designated Market Areas (DMAs), Congressional Districts (CDs), Places, County Subdivisions (CSDs), School Districts, and residential ZIP codes.

  • School District Boundaries—Geographic boundaries for School Districts have been added for the United States, including Elementary, Secondary, and Unified School Districts. School districts are geographic areas designated by local and state officials to organize and manage public education. In many parts of the country, school districts align with place or county boundaries. See the Esri 2024 U.S. Demographics Release Notes (PDF) for more information. For more information about school district boundaries, see the United States Census Bureau Updated School District Boundaries Technical Documentation on the U.S. Census website.

There are four types of school districts, sourced from the TIGER (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing) system maintained by the U.S. Census Bureau, in part for the purpose of helping the Department of Education properly allocate Title 1 funding. The latest school district boundaries used with ArcGIS Location Data are from TIGER 2023, which contains information for districts that were in operation as of January 1, 2023.

Districts are categorized based on the grade ranges for which the district is financially responsible. These may or may not be the same as the grade ranges that a school district operates:

    • Unified school districts provide education to children of all school ages. In general, if an area is covered by a unified school district, no elementary or secondary district exists.
    • Secondary school districts are generally responsible for high school levels, but some are responsible for grades 6–8 as well.
    • Elementary school districts are responsible for school children starting in kindergarten or pre-kindergarten. Generally, if an elementary school district exists in an area, there may or may not be a secondary school district.

GEOIDs for school districts have a length of 7: the first two characters represent the state FIPS code, as school districts do not cross state boundaries; the remaining five characters are the school district local education agency code.

  • Esri Urbanicity Type data—a land-based classification system that designates every U.S. Census block into one of 10 urbanicity categories. See the Esri 2024 U.S. Demographics Release Notes (PDF) for more information.
  • Esri Business Summary—Data vintage is updated to June 2024. There are 14 new NAICS-based business summary sub-categories. Refer to the Esri U.S. Business Summaries section in the 2024 Business Locations and U.S. Business Summary data Esri Methodology Statement (ArcGIS StoryMaps) or (PDF) for details.
  • Traffic Counts—Data vintage is updated to Q3 2024.
