Services and privileges

When you use ArcGIS for Power BI with an ArcGIS account, your system administrator must configure your account to have access to the following services:

Privileges

The following account privilege settings, under General privileges, must be configured:

  • Members > View
  • Groups > Join organizational groups
  • Groups > View groups shared with portal
  • Content > View content shared with portal
  • Content > Content and analysis > Geocoding, GeoEnrichment, Network analysis

If one or more of these privileges are not established, some ArcGIS for Power BI functionality will be limited. The following examples describe what to expect when these services or privileges are not established or are unavailable:

FunctionDescription

Geocoding

If the ArcGIS Geocoding service is unavailable, you cannot add locations to a map using address data. Use latitude and longitude coordinates or map the data using standard administrative boundaries.

Buffer/Drive time analysis

If the ArcGIS Network Analyst extension is not available, Buffer/Drive time area functionality is limited. Although you can create a ring buffer, you cannot analyze drive times or distances.

Location type

If the ArcGIS Geocoding service and GeoEnrichment Service are not available, the Location type functionality is also unavailable.

Information tool

If the GeoEnrichment Service is not available, Information card functionality is also unavailable.

If the GeoEnrichment Service is available but the Network Analyst services are not, Information tool functionality is limited; you can create study areas only.

ArcGIS Living Atlas

In addition to the services and privileges listed above, ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World must be explicitly enabled by your administrator. If it is not enabled in your deployment, it is unavailable in ArcGIS for Power BI.
