Add the Feature information pane

Note:

Some workflows may require specific privileges. For more information about user types, roles, and privileges, see the Accounts topic.

The Feature information pane adds interactive content from the available attributes in layers you add from ArcGIS. The content can be used to illustrate regional details, provide more context to your data, and highlight the breadth of available related information. See Feature information for more details.

To add and manage a Feature information pane, complete the following steps:

  1. Follow the steps in the Add a layer from ArcGIS or Add a United States demographic data layer workflow to add a reference layer from ArcGIS to the map.
  2. Click Visualizations > Format visual > Visual Format visual.
    Power BI Format visual tab
  3. Expand the Feature information category and do the following:
    1. Turn on the Enable toggle button to place a Feature information pane on the map.

The Feature information pane appears to the left of the map window by default.

    2. Optionally select a new position for the pane from the drop-down menu.
  4. On the map view, expand the Feature information pane and choose a layer from the Selectable layers drop-down menu.

    Note:
Some layers may have multiple selectable layers.

  5. On the map, click a feature from the selected layer to show its attribute information in the Feature information pane.

Tips for using the Feature information pane

The Feature information pane can support your data with a gallery of layers from ArcGIS that contain interactive features, including charts, graphs, live feeds, and location data from multiple data sources that provide you with an extensive content library.

The following tips can help you improve your interaction with the Feature information pane:

  • In the Layers list Layers, drag the selected layer to the top of the list before you select features, making it the top layer on the map. This helps you to select features on the correct map layer when there is more than one layer in the list.
  • Not all layers contain attributes that can be viewed—or are useful—in the Feature information pane. You may need to spend time reviewing the gallery of layers and available content to find suitable attributes to use with your dataset.
  • Use the Selectable layers drop-down menu in the Feature information pane to choose which attributes to show and at what regional depth (for example, City, County, Province, and so forth).
  • Hover over charts, graphs, and other infographics in the Feature information pane to see interactive components and tabular data details.
