Configure consent notice

A privacy consent notice allows visitors to accept or reject tracking categories configured on your site. This includes Hub Activity Tracking and third-party tools such as Google Analytics, Siteimprove, and Adobe Analytics tracking. Depending on the tracking options configured, the visitor may accept none, some, or all of the resulting tracking categories.

Unless enabled, the privacy consent notice will not appear to visitors on arrival. If enabled and consent is set to optional, visitors can interact with the site without accepting any cookies (consent notices appear in the lower right corner). If consent is required, visitors must accept only necessary or all cookies before interacting with the site. Whenever the privacy consent notice is enabled, visitors can select Review settings on the consent notice to see configured tracking categories and descriptions and toggle them on or off individually.

By default, the privacy consent notice will not appear to visitors on arrival unless you enable the notice. Visitors to a site, page, or view can always update their privacy preferences by using the Manage Privacy link in the product footer. The footer cannot be removed so that visitors always have access to your site's privacy consent notice. Read more about Expanded configuration options for privacy consent in this Community post.

Configure a consent notice

To enable or disable a consent notice, follow these steps:

  1. Open a site in edit mode.
  2. Select the Manage site settings button to go to the site workspace.
  3. Select Settings and select the General pane to change the Privacy configuration.
  4. Select Display privacy notice to enable or disable the consent notice.
  5. If displaying a privacy consent notice, select a Notice type. Optional consent means a visitor can use the site without selecting a privacy consent (tracking occurs until rejected by visitor). Required consent means a visitor must accept or reject tracking to use the site (tracking does not start unless accepted).
    • If Hub Activity Tracking is enabled, the consent notice displays disclaimer text unique to Esri and the Esri Privacy Statement.
      Note:

Under Optional display settings, you can provide your own Privacy description (custom disclaimer text) and privacy Policy link to display on the consent notice.

    • If no tracking is enabled, default disclaimer text informs visitors that they are not being tracked.
  6. Select Save.

Browsing activity is not tracked, regardless of the site's enabled tracking mechanisms, if the Esri User Experience Improvement program is disabled for a member's organization or if the browser configuration does not allow activity tracking.
