ArcGIS IPS is an indoor positioning system (IPS) that provides geolocation capabilities for a wide range of indoor location applications. ArcGIS IPS allows you to locate and navigate to people, places, and assets inside a facility in real time.
To use indoor positioning data, you need to create the ArcGIS IPS Information Model and floor plan data in ArcGIS Pro and publish an indoor positioning data service from an indoor positioning dataset. You also need an ArcGIS organization on ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online to host shared data.
To configure an indoor positioning data service in Map Viewer, your organization must be licensed with the ArcGIS IPS organizational capability, and ArcGIS Pro must be licensed with a Standard or an Advanced license level. In addition, organization members must be assigned the ArcGIS IPS user type extension.
To configure an indoor positioning data service in Map Viewer, complete the following steps:
- Confirm that you are signed in and, if you want to save your changes, that you have privileges to create, update, and delete content.
Note:
You can explore maps, add and configure layers, and more without signing in. To save your work, sign in before creating a map. - In Map Viewer, on the Contents (dark) toolbar, click Map properties
.
- In the Indoor positioning data section, click Add service.
The indoor positioning data service is added to the map.
- On the indoor positioning data service item, do any of the following:
- Click Item details
to open the item page.
- Click Remove
to remove the indoor positioning data service from the map.
- Click Item details
- Under Configuration, do any of the following to configure the indoor positioning data service:
Note:
Configuration settings are only available when an indoor positioning data service has been added under Map properties.
- Turn on the Enable smoothing toggle button to enhance turn-by-turn navigation by addressing abrupt changes in direction, speed, and position.
- Turn on the Enable GNSS toggle button to allow users of the indoor positioning data service to obtain an outdoor position upon exiting the building.
- Turn on the Enable Apple IPS toggle button to allow use of the Apple IPS deployment in the facility.
- Turn on the Enable Path Snapping toggle button to allow the user's location indicator to snap to pathways that are IPS aware.
Note:
Pathways are linear features that represent traversable space. For more information about indoor positioning service data structures, refer to the ArcGIS IPS Information Model in ArcGIS Pro.
- Under Distance, provide a value between 1 and 10 meters (3.2 to 32 feet) to set the path snapping distance. This value determines how far an estimated position can be from a defined pathway before it snaps to align with and follow the path.
- Click Restore defaults to return to the default indoor positioning data service configuration settings.
