Business Analyst content in your organization

Business Analyst projects are stored as groups in your organization, where you can view, access, organize, and share them. The content contained in a project, such as sites and layers, is stored as a hosted feature layer on the Content tab of your organization and shared with the corresponding group. To learn more, see Data management in ArcGIS Online.

You can belong to a maximum of 512 groups. Since Business Analyst projects are stored as groups in your organization, this means you can have a maximum of 512 projects. If you have reached the maximum, you must leave or delete a group before you can create a new project.

Caution:

If you delete a Business Analyst group from your organization, the corresponding project in your Business Analyst account is also deleted.

Items created from Business Analyst

When you create a project in Business Analyst, the following items are created in your organization:

  • A group—The group has the same title as your project, and you are the only member.
  • An empty feature layer—The feature layer has the same title as your project. The layer is shared to the project group and to the BA - Project Data folder. The layer has delete protection enabled.
    Caution:

Deleting this layer causes the associated project to no longer open.

  • Application data layers—Four layers are added to the BA - Application Data folder that store layer preferences, map data, filter data, and project preferences.

You can share content you create using Business Analyst from your organization with the public.

Deleting Business Analyst items

It is recommended that you periodically assess and delete Business Analyst items that are no longer being used from your organization. If recycle bin functionality is enabled for your organization, deleting an item moves it to the recycle bin for 14 days before it is deleted permanently. You can bypass the recycle bin and permanently delete an item by checking the Enable permanent deletion of this item check box in the Confirm delete window.

Business Analyst items that are moved into the recycle bin when deleted are listed below:

  • Previously run (Ordered) reports
  • Custom report and infographic templates
  • Custom datasets

When restoring Business Analyst items from the recycle bin, you must select the location where you want to store it. To ensure that your items are accessed and displayed correctly in Business Analyst Web App, select the appropriate folder created from Business Analyst.

Note:

For Previously run (Ordered) reports, after restoring the item from the recycle bin, you must manually share the item again with the original project group.

For guidance on deleting and restoring items, see the following:
