Note:
ArcGIS Community Analyst is being retired. See Deprecation notice for ArcGIS Community Analyst: Transition to ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App for more information.
ArcGIS Community Analyst projects are stored as groups in your organization, where you can view, access, organize, and share them. The content contained in a project, such as sites and layers, is stored as a hosted feature layer on the Content tab of your organization and shared with the corresponding group. To learn more, see Data management in ArcGIS Online.
You can belong to a maximum of 512 groups. Since ArcGIS Community Analyst projects are stored as groups in your organization, this means you can have a maximum of 512 projects. If you have reached the maximum, you must leave or delete a group before you can create a new project.
Caution:
If you delete an ArcGIS Community Analyst group from your organization, the corresponding project in your ArcGIS Community Analyst account is also deleted.
Items created from ArcGIS Community Analyst
When you create a project in ArcGIS Community Analyst, the following items are created in your organization:
- A group—The group has the same title as your project, and you are the only member.
- An empty feature layer—The feature layer has the same title as your project. The layer is shared to the project group and to the CA - Project Data folder. The layer has delete protection enabled.
Caution:
Deleting this layer causes the associated project to no longer open.
- Application data layers—Four layers are added to the CA - Application Data folder that store layer preferences, map data, filter data, and project preferences.
You can share content you create using ArcGIS Community Analyst from your organization with the public.
Folders created from ArcGIS Community Analyst
ArcGIS Community Analyst content is automatically saved and stored in folders under the My Content tab of your organization. The following table describes the folders and their contents:
Folder | Content contained |

CA - Application Data | ArcGIS Community Analyst settings, preferences, and saved variables including color-coded maps, smart map searches, benchmark comparisons data, and project preferences. |
CA - My Maps | Items shared from ArcGIS Community Analyst to your organization using the ArcGIS web map workflow, stories created using the ArcGIS StoryMaps workflow, and items created when you share results as a dashboard. |
CA - My Reports - Ordered Reports | PDFs created using the PDF or image workflow, and reports in PDF, All-In-One PDF, and Excel formats created using the run reports workflow. |
CA - Project Data | Data (hosted feature layers) that stores your sites and additional layers from projects created in ArcGIS Community Analyst. |
CA - Report Themes | Custom infographic themes saved using the build infographics workflow. |
Custom Data | Custom data created using the custom data setup workflow in ArcGIS Community Analyst. |

Deleting ArcGIS Community Analyst items
It is recommended that you periodically assess and delete ArcGIS Community Analyst items that are no longer being used from your organization. If recycle bin functionality is enabled for your organization, deleting an item moves it to the recycle bin for 14 days before it is deleted permanently. You can bypass the recycle bin and permanently delete an item by checking the Enable permanent deletion of this item check box in the Confirm delete window.
ArcGIS Community Analyst items that are moved into the recycle bin when deleted are listed below:
- Previously run (Ordered) reports
- Custom report and infographic templates
- Custom datasets
When restoring ArcGIS Community Analyst items from the recycle bin, you must select the location where you want to store it. To ensure that your items are accessed and displayed correctly in ArcGIS Community Analyst, select the appropriate folder created from ArcGIS Community Analyst.
Note:
For Previously run (Ordered) reports, after restoring the item from the recycle bin, you must manually share the item again with the original project group.
For guidance on deleting and restoring items, see the following:
