Modify a published collection

Some collections may need to be revised or updated after their initial publication. ArcGIS StoryMaps supports a workflow that allows you to make changes to a published collection and publish the changes to the existing collection. In this workflow, updates to published collections are stored as unpublished changes and are not visible to your audience until you are ready to share them and you republish.

View a published collection

If you want to see a collection from the perspective of your audience, you can view the published version of the collection from the Collections page or in the collection builder.

Use the following steps to view the published version of a collection from the Collections page:

  1. Browse to the Collections page in ArcGIS StoryMaps.
  2. Find the collection you want to view and click the quick actions button Quick Actions on the collection card.
  3. Click View.
    Note:

You can also modify the thumbnail of a collection from the Collections page using the Update thumbnail action on the card.

Use the following steps to view the published version of a collection from the collection builder:

  1. In the collection builder, click the menu button Menu.
  2. Click View published collection.

The published version of the collection opens in the viewer.

Present a published collection

You can share a published collection with your audience by linking to the viewer as described above or using the presentation view. The presentation view displays the collection's items together in a series of tabs where people can view and interact with them in a single browser tab.

Use the following steps to present a published collection:

  1. Open the collection in the presentation view by doing either of the following:
    • Click the Present button in the collection viewer header.
    • Click any of the items, such as a story or an app, listed in the collection view.
  2. Navigate between the collection's items.
    • Click the arrow buttons in the header to transition forward or backward from one item to another.
    • Click the menu button in the header to open the presentation navigation panel and click an item to open it in the presentation view.

Change the audience of a published collection

If you shared a collection with your organization and you want it to be visible to everyone, or vice versa, you can change how it is shared.

Use the following steps to change the audience of a published collection:

  1. In the collection builder, click the menu button Menu.
  2. Click Sharing settings to open the Sharing settings panel.
  3. Choose who can view the collection: Private, My organization, or Everyone (Public). Optionally, you can also share the collection with people in specific groups through the Group settings section.
  4. Click Update sharing settings.

The Sharing settings panel closes and the audience of the collection is changed.

Publish changes to a collection

After updating a collection, you can publish the changes and make them available to your audience. To republish a collection, click the Publish button in the collection builder header. This republishes the collection and makes the changes available to the selected audience.

Discard unpublished changes to a collection

If you have unpublished changes and want to revert to the currently published version of your collection, you can discard the unpublished changes.

Use the following steps to discard unpublished changes:

  1. In the collection builder, click the menu button Menu.
  2. Click Discard changes.
  3. Click Yes, discard changes to confirm.

The unpublished changes are discarded, and you can edit the previously published version of your collection in the collection builder.

Unpublish a collection

If you no longer want your collection to be available to others, you can unpublish it. Unpublishing removes the collection from view of the selected audience and returns it to a draft state.

Use the following steps to unpublish a collection:

  1. In the collection builder, click the menu button Menu.
  2. Click Unpublish collection.
  3. Click Yes, unpublish to confirm.

The collection is unpublished and is no longer accessible to the audience.
