Sewer Manhole Inspections can be used to streamline the inspection of sewer manholes.
In this topic, you'll learn how to configure the Sewer Manhole Inspections solution to meet specific needs of your organization.

As you configure the solution, record the configurations or alterations you make with each version in a change log. This information will be valuable if you upgrade to a new version and need to evaluate the effort required.Add members to groups in your organization
Sewer Manhole Inspections includes three groups designed to help managers organize their members based on their privileges and their work.
To add members to the two groups and the workforce project, complete the following steps:
Add users to groups
To add members to the groups, complete the following steps:
- In a browser, sign in to your ArcGIS organization and verify that you have privileges to manage member groups.
- Click Groups at the top of the site.
- Browse to a group and click it to open the group page.
- On the Settings tab, edit and update the properties of the group, including access, sharing properties, and group ownership.
- On the Overview tab, click Invite members.
- Check the check box next to the members that you want to add and click Add members to group.
- Repeat these steps for each group that you need to add members to.
For members to fully use the maps and apps provided with the solution, they must have at least the following minimum user types:

Load Data
This solution deploys with the SewerSystem feature layer from the Sewer Data Management solution. If you are utilizing the Sewer Manhole Inspections solution independently from the Sewer Data Management solution, you will need to load data into the Manhole layer.
Load data from a shapefile or file geodatabase
Manhole data must be loaded into the SewerSystem layer before using the Sewer Manhole Inspections solution.
To load data from a shapefile or file geodatabase, complete the following steps:
- Create a .zip file of your shapefile or file geodatabase.
- Verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the SewerSystem feature layer.
- From the item page, select the Manhole sublayer.
- From the item page, click Update Data.
Tip:
You may need to click the expand button
to see all options.
- Follow the steps in the Update data wizard to load your data.

Use the Data Loading toolset
The Data Loading toolset contains tools to streamline data loading from a source schema to a target schema. The tools help reduce the time and complexity of migrating to a new data schema.
- Open ArcGIS Pro.
- Click Tools in the Geoprocessing group on the Analysis tab of the ribbon.
- Expand the Data Management Tools then expand the Data Loading toolset.
- Review the Data Loading toolset documentation to understand how to load data into the Manhole layer of the SewerSystem feature service.
Extend the Sewer Data Management schema
The Sewer Manhole Inspections solution includes a notebook to extend the manhole inspection schema.
Note:
You must be assigned a role of Administrator or custom role which includes the privilege to Create and edit notebooks in order to run an ArcGIS Notebooks and complete the following steps.
To extend the schema of the manhole inspection table from the Sewer Data Management solution, complete the following steps:
- Sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Extend Schema notebook.
- Click Open Notebook.
- Click Cell and select Run All from the drop-down menu.
- Review the included fields in the Fields To Add cell and use Ctl + Left Click to remove fields that you don't want to include in the target layer.
Caution:
Removing fields may cause items in the solution to break or not work as designed.
- Click the Extend Schema button.
- When all processes are complete, close the notebook.
Set the default map extent to your service territory
When the Sewer Manhole Inspections solution is deployed into your organization, it uses the map default set in your organization. If this property has not been set, you may want to quickly update a few maps to your service territory manually to avoid having to pan and zoom to your area each time you open a map. To update the initial extent of the maps provided with this solution, complete the following steps:
- Verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Sewer Manhole Inspections Viewer map.
- From the item page, click Open in Map Viewer.
- Zoom the map to the desired extent, and then save the map.
- Repeat these steps to change the extent of the Sewer Manhole Inspections Field Editor and Sewer Manhole Inspections Editor, adn Sewer Manhole Inspection Dashboard web maps.
Add inspector names to a list (Optional)
When the Sewer Manhole Inspections solution is deployed into your organization you have the ability to add a list to a field that does not already have one in order to assist with enforcing data quality. One field you may want to consider adding a list to is the Inspected By field for the ManholeRelate table.
To add a list to the Inspected By field in the ManholeRelate table, complete the following steps:
- Verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS Organization and browse to the SewerSystem layer.
- From the item page, click on the Data tab.
- From the Layer drop down, choose ManholeRelate.
- In the top right, click on Fields.
- Click on the field Inspected By.
- Click Create List.
- Enter the names of Manhole inspectors to the list.
Enter the same value in both the Label and the Code (stored value) fields.
- Click Save.
Note:
If you chose to add a list to the Inspected By field you may also want to remove the calculated expression in the Sewer Manhole Inspections Field Editor map which has been configured to set the Inspected By name to the signed in user.
