The Stormwater Construction Activity Management solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you conduct routine construction site inspections, record observations of sediment and erosion control on site, understand the effectiveness of stormwater control measures, and provide actionable reports to stakeholders.
Create and assign construction site
When construction is occurring, stormwater inspectors must visit the site regularly to ensure the Stormwater Plan is being followed. Typically an individual inspector is assigned to each site for regular inspection.
In this workflow, you will assume the role of the stormwater manager who assigns an inspector to a construction site.
- Verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Stormwater Construction Activity Center app.
- From the item page, click View to open the app.
- From the top menu, click Manage, then Construction sites.
- On the left, click the Edit button.
- Click the Construction sites template.
- Draw a polygon around the site area where stormwater inspections will occur.
- Fill in the project information.
- Click Create.
Perform site inspections
Stormwater construction inspections are critical to ensure stormwater is being managed properly on active sites.
In this workflow, you will assume the role of the stormwater inspector who is conducting an inspection on a construction site.
Note:
This workflow requires the latest versions of both ArcGIS Field Maps and ArcGIS Survey123. Be sure to verify that you have the latest version of both apps before starting the following workflow.
Note:
Your interface may vary depending on the type of mobile device that you use.
- Open ArcGIS Field Maps and ArcGIS Survey123 on your mobile device and sign in to your ArcGIS organization on both.
- In ArcGIS Field Maps, tap the Stormwater Construction Inspections Field Map map to open it.
The map will zoom to your location.
- Tap anywhere on the construction site polygon that you are inspecting.
- Click Conduct Stormwater Inspection at the top of the pop-up.
ArcGIS Survey123 opens the Stormwater Construction Inspection form.
- Fill out the inspection form.
- If an issue is found, use the Issues section to capture the location, choose the stormwater control measure that has a defect or deficiency, indicate the issue type, and capture a photo.
- Tap the refresh button
next to Task type, Status, Assigned to, and Due date fields. These values are used to create a task for reinspection of that control measure.
- To add another issue, tap the plus sign in the repeat menu.
Repeat these steps for any additional issues. - Continue filling out the inspection form.
- Tap the check mark at the lower right and tap Send now.
- Go back to ArcGIS Field Maps.
Follow up on issues
Stormwater issues identified on construction inspections must be resolved in a timely manner to ensure that stormwater is being managed properly on active sites.
Resolve issue
In this workflow, you will assume the role of a stormwater inspector who has been assigned to conduct inspections on a construction site and you want to capture some additional observations on site.
- Open ArcGIS Field Maps and ArcGIS Survey123 on your mobile device and sign in to your ArcGIS organization on both.
- In ArcGIS Field Maps, tap the Stormwater Construction Inspections Field Map to open it.
- In the bottom of the screen, tap the panel to expand tasks.
- In the list, tap an issue that is in progress.
- Tap Add notes and record information about the issue, and then tap OK to save the note.
- Tap Take photo and take a picture of the resolved issue for your records.
- Tap Resolved.
Escalate issue
In this workflow, you will assume the role of the stormwater inspector who needs to escalate an issue identified during a previous inspection on a construction site.
- Open ArcGIS Field Maps and ArcGIS Survey123 on your mobile device and sign in to your ArcGIS organization on both.
- Tap the Stormwater Construction Inspections Field Map to open it.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap the tasks window to expand it.
- In the list, tap the issue that needs to be escalated.
- Tap Add notes to record information about the issue, and then tap OK to save the note.
- Tap Take photo and take a picture of the escalated issue for your records.
- Tap More and tap Escalate.
ArcGIS Survey123 opens the Escalate noncompliance form. The form has been pre-populated for the inspector, no information needs to be changed or added at this step.
- Tap the check mark at the lower right and tap Send now.
- Go back to ArcGIS Field Maps.
- Tap More and tap Unresolved.
Manage and monitor inspections and issues
Stormwater managers may want to view inspections, issues, and photos associated.
Monitor active operations
In this workflow, you will assume the role of a stormwater manager who wants to review the active workloads of the stormwater inspectors.
- Sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Stormwater Construction Activity Center app.
- From the item page, click View to launch the app.
- The app opens to the Active Operations page.
- In the top right, use the filters to search by project name, inspector name, or issue due date.
- Review the active construction sites, site assignments, and sites overdue for inspection.
- Review overdue issues, open issues by inspector, and by due date.
Manage inspections and issues
Stormwater managers want to see details associated with inspections and any issues associated with the inspection.
In this workflow, you will assume the role of a stormwater manager who wants to see details associated with inspections and any issues associated with the inspection.
- Sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Stormwater Construction Activity Center app.
- From the item page, click View to launch the app.
- The app opens to the Active Operations page.
- At the top of the page, click Manage, and then click Inspections and issues.
- Expand the sidebar to use the filters. Search by project name, inspector name, or inspection date.
- Click an inspection from the Inspection list.
- Click the Inspection results to filter the map and Issue list table to show only those issues associated with that inspection.
- In the Issue list table, click an issue to view details.
Clicking the Email link in the Issue details box opens a pre-filled email containing basic issue information and a link to the Stormwater Construction Inspections Field Map in ArcGIS Field Maps, which zooms to the issue location.
Report on inspections
Stormwater managers need to view the results of inspections to fulfill compliance needs.
Understand inspection details
In this workflow, you will assume the role of a stormwater manager who wants to gain insight into the issues observed during inspections.
- Sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Stormwater Construction Activity Center app.
- From the item page, click View to launch the app.
- The app opens to the Active Operations page.
- At the top of the page, click Report, and then click Insights.
- On the left, use the filters to look closely at issue details and compliance metrics.
- On the bottom of the dashboard, click the Inspections tab.
- On the left, use the filters to refine the results, if necessary.
- To export a table of inspections, click the ellipsis
in the top right and click Download source data. - At the bottom of the dashboard, click the Issues tab, and then repeat the previous steps to export a table of Issues.
Generate inspection report
In this workflow, you will assume the role of a stormwater inspector who needs to create a report that documents an inspection and any issues found during that inspection.
- Sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Stormwater Construction Activity Center app.
- From the item page, click View to launch the app.
- The app opens to the Active Operations page.
- At the top of the page, click Report, then click Generate report.
- Click an inspection in the table.
- Change Output Settings as needed.
- Click Generate.
A report is generated as a Microsoft Work file which can be sent electronically or printed.
