Edit a project

You can edit all aspects of a project by creating scenarios and comparing them to the existing conditions. The editing functions in a project include the following:

  • Edit the study area.
  • Demolish underlying conditions.
  • Upload and store detailed 3D models.
  • Add assets such as trees, vehicles, and street furniture.
  • Sketch building volumes with a defined height.
  • Sketch ground surfaces.

If a project is shared with everyone, only the owner can edit it. You cannot edit projects that you uploaded to the urban database through the data manager. You cannot edit the existing conditions scenario.

Start editing

To edit a project, complete the following steps:

  1. Select the project you want to edit in the view or locate it using the search panel at the upper left of the overview.

    The project editor opens.

  2. Click the Development button Development mode from the buttons at the left of the view.

    The development mode toolbar appears.

  3. Use the editing tools from the context toolbar.
  4. Adjust the view by turning on or off the demolition area, ground surfaces, building volumes, and assets such as trees, vehicles, and street furniture in the layer list. Click the Layers button Layers at the upper right of the view to open the Layers list.

Edit the study area

To edit the study area, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Info button Details from the buttons at the left of the view.

    The Project info side panel opens.

  2. Click the Edit project info button Edit button in the side panel's header.

    The Project info side panel switches into editing mode. The study area becomes editable.

  3. Edit the study area by clicking and dragging its vertices.

    Note:
    • This tool supports snapping. To disable snapping temporarily, press the Ctrl key while drawing.
    • This tool supports editing constraints. Press the Tab key while drawing to input exact dimensions.

  4. Click the Return to project info button Return to project in the side panel's header to complete the study area editing.

Demolish existing conditions

Use the demolish tool to remove existing buildings and trees from the view. The demolish tool allows you to do the following:

  • Demolish all existing buildings and trees intersecting the project's study area. See the Demolish existing conditions by study area section below to learn more.
  • Use a custom demolish area to remove selected existing buildings and trees. See the Work with custom demolish areas section below to learn more.
  • Edit a demolish area. See the Edit a demolish area section below to learn more.
  • Remove selected demolish areas. See the Remove a demolish area section below.

Note:

The demolish area you create in the first scenario will be used in the overview to mask existing buildings and trees for everybody who has access to the project. Change the scenario order to show a different scenario in the overview.

Demolish existing conditions by study area

To demolish all existing building and trees intersecting the project's study area, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Development button Development mode from the toolbar at the left of the view.

    The development mode toolbar appears.

  2. Choose the Demolish study area option Demolish from the Demolish drop-down menu.

    The study area is visualized in orange with a dotted outline. Existing buildings and trees intersecting the study area are removed from the view.

Work with custom demolish areas

You can draw a custom demolish area to remove existing buildings and trees. To draw a custom demolish area, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Development button Development mode from the toolbar at the left of the view.

    The development mode toolbar appears.

  2. Choose the Demolish custom area option Custom demolish from the Demolish drop-down menu.
  3. Draw a custom demolish area on the map.

    Note:
    • This tool supports snapping. To disable snapping temporarily, press the Ctrl key while drawing.
    • This tool supports editing constraints. Press the Tab key while drawing to input exact dimensions.

  4. Double-click to complete the drawing.

    The custom demolish area is visualized in orange with a dotted outline. Existing buildings and trees intersecting the demolish area are removed from the view.

Edit a demolish area

To edit the geometry of a demolish area, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Development button Development mode from the toolbar at the left of the view.

    The development mode toolbar appears.

  2. Click the Select button Select tool in the toolbar to activate the selection tool.
  3. Click the outline of the demolish area you want to edit.

    The editing toolbar appears underneath the demolish area polygon.

  4. Click the Edit button Editing tool.

    Note:
    • This tool supports snapping. To disable snapping temporarily, press the Ctrl key while drawing.
    • This tool supports editing constraints. Press the Tab key while drawing to input exact dimensions.

    You can edit the vertices of the demolish area polygon.

Remove a demolish area

To remove a demolish area, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Development button Development mode from the toolbar at the left of the view.

    The development mode toolbar appears.

  2. Click the Select button Select tool in the toolbar to activate the selection tool.
  3. Click the outline of the demolish area you want to edit.

    The editing toolbar appears underneath the demolish area polygon.

  4. Click the Delete button Delete.

    The selected demolish area is removed from the view.

Add and edit assets

You can do the following when working with assets such as trees, vehicles, and street furniture in a project:

  • Add assets such as trees, vehicles, and street furniture.
  • Change the type of an existing asset.
  • Reposition the asset.
  • Duplicate an asset within the same scenario or copy it to another scenario.
  • Delete an asset.

Note:

Assets such as trees, vehicles, and street furniture are only visible in the project editor. They are not displayed in the overview.

Add assets

To add assets such as trees, vehicles, and street furniture when editing a project, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Development button Development mode from the toolbar at the left of the view.

    The development mode toolbar appears.

  2. Click the Add asset button Add asset.

    The asset picker drop-down menu appears.

  3. Select the asset to place in the project.
  4. Click the map to place the asset or press the Tab key to input exact coordinates.

    The asset is placed in the map.

  5. Press the Esc key to exit the tool.

Edit assets

To edit assets, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Development button Development mode from the toolbar at the left of the view.

    The development mode toolbar appears.

  2. Click the Select button Select tool in the toolbar to activate the selection tool.
  3. Click the asset you want to edit.

    The editing toolbar appears underneath the asset.

  4. Choose from the asset editing tools according to your requirements:
    • Use the handles in the view to scale, rotate, or move the currently selected asset.
    • Asset type drop-down menu—Change the type of an existing asset.
    • Duplicate Duplicate—Duplicate the currently selected asset.
    • Remove Remove—Remove the currently selected asset.
    • Select the Locate option from the More drop-down menu More to move the asset to a specific location by inserting coordinates.
    • Select the Duplicate to option from the More drop-down menu More to copy the currently selected asset to another scenario.

Add and edit volumes

You can do the following when working with building volumes in a project:

  • Sketch new building volumes.
  • Change the height of a building volume.
  • Reshape and reposition the geometry.
  • Duplicate a building volume within the same scenario or copy it to another scenario.
  • Delete a volume.

Note:

Building volumes you create in the first scenario will be visible in the overview as future developments for everybody who has access to the project. Change the scenario order to show a different scenario in the overview.

Sketch new volumes

To sketch new building volumes in a project, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Development button Development mode from the toolbar at the left of the view.

    The development mode toolbar appears.

  2. Choose the Sketch volumes option Sketch volumes from the Sketch drop-down menu.

    The context input text field to define the height of the building volume appears.

  3. Provide a numeric value in the text field to define the height of the building.
  4. Draw the building footprint.

    Note:
    • This tool supports snapping. To disable snapping temporarily, press the Ctrl key while drawing.
    • This tool supports editing constraints. Press the Tab key while drawing to input exact dimensions.

  5. Double-click to complete the drawing.
  6. To add more buildings to the project, repeat steps 2 through 5.

    You can draw buildings on top of each other to create a podium and tower effect.

Edit volumes

To edit building volumes, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Development button Development mode from the toolbar at the left of the view.

    The development mode toolbar appears.

  2. Click the Select button Select tool in the toolbar to activate the selection tool.
  3. Click the building volume you want to edit.

    The editing toolbar appears underneath the volume.

  4. Choose from the volume editing tools according to your requirements:
    • Use the handles in the view to rotate or move the currently selected volume.
    • Height input field—Change the height of a building volume.
    • Reshape geometry Reshape geometry—Add vertices and move and remove existing vertices.
      Note:
      This tool supports snapping. To disable snapping temporarily, press the Ctrl key while editing.
    • Duplicate Duplicate—Duplicate the currently selected building volume.
    • Remove Remove—Remove the currently selected building volume.
    • Select the Duplicate to option from the More drop-down menu More to copy the currently selected building volume to another scenario.

Add and edit surfaces

You can do the following when working with ground surfaces in a project:

  • Sketch new ground surfaces.
  • Change the type of an existing surface.
  • Reshape and reposition the geometry.
  • Duplicate a surface polygon within the same scenario or copy it to another scenario.
  • Delete a surface.

Note:

Ground surfaces are only visible in the project editor. They are not displayed in the overview.

Sketch new surfaces

To sketch new ground surfaces in a project, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Development button Development mode from the toolbar at the left of the view.

    The development mode toolbar appears.

  2. Choose the Sketch surfaces option Sketch surfaces from the Sketch drop-down menu.

    The ground library context drop-down menu appears.

  3. Choose between Grass, Concrete, or Water.
  4. Draw the ground area.

    Note:
    • This tool supports snapping. To disable snapping temporarily, press the Ctrl key while drawing.
    • This tool supports editing constraints. Press the Tab key while drawing to input exact dimensions.

  5. Double-click to complete the drawing.

Edit surfaces

To edit ground surfaces, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Development button Development mode from the toolbar at the left of the view.

    The development mode toolbar appears.

  2. Click the Select button Select tool in the toolbar to activate the selection tool.
  3. Click the ground surface you want to edit.

    The editing toolbar appears underneath the surface.

  4. Choose from the surface editing tools according to your requirements:
    • Use the handles in the view to rotate or move the currently selected surface.
    • Surface type drop-down menu—Change the type of a surface polygon.
    • Reshape geometry Reshape geometry—Add vertices and move and remove existing vertices.
      Note:
      This tool supports snapping. To disable snapping temporarily, press the Ctrl key while editing.
    • Duplicate Duplicate—Duplicate the currently selected surface polygon.
    • Remove Remove—Remove the currently selected surface polygon.
    • Select the Duplicate to option from the More drop-down menu More to copy the currently selected surface polygon to another scenario.
