Work with the measure tools

You can measure distances and areas to understand the scale of objects in relation to the real world.

Access the measure tools

The measure tools are available as an interactive analysis in the overview, plans, and projects.

Note:

The results are not persisted.

Measure tools in the overview

To activate the measure tools in the overview, complete the following steps:

1. Expand the Analysis button toolbar in the lower right corner of the view.
   • Select the Measure distance option .
   • Select the Measure area option .

   The measure tool opens with a toolbar at the top of the map.

2. Follow the steps in Measure distance or Measure area below.

Measure tools in projects

To activate the measure tools in a project, complete the following steps:

1. Click the Development button on the toolbar at the left of the view.

   The development mode toolbar appears with a toolbar on the upper left of the view.

2. Expand the Measure and slice drop-down menu on the right side of the toolbar:
   • Select the Measure distance option to open the distance measurement tool.
   • Select the Measure area option to open the area measurement tool.

   The measure tool opens.

3. Follow the steps in Measure distance or Measure area below.

Measure tools in plans

To activate the measure tools in a plan, complete the following steps:

1. Expand the Measure and slice button toolbar in the lower right corner of the view.
   • Select the Measure distance option .
   • Select the Measure area option .

   The measure tool opens with a toolbar at the top of the map.

2. Follow the steps in Measure distance or Measure area below.

Measure distance

To measure distances on the map, complete the following steps:

1. Open the measure distance tool.

   See the Access the measure tools section above to learn how to open the measure tools in the overview, in plans, and projects.

2. Click the map to place a point to start measuring.

   Note:

   This tool supports snapping. To disable snapping temporarily, press the Ctrl key while drawing.

3. Double-click to complete the measurement.

   An orange-white line is displayed on the map with measurements attached to it.

4. Click the New measurement button to start a new measurement.

   The previous measurement disappears from the map. Go back to step 2 to start a new measurement.

Measure area

To measure areas on the map, complete the following steps:

1. Open the measure area tool.

   See the Access the measure tools section above to learn how to open the measure tools in the overview, in plans, and projects.

2. Click the map to place multiple points to start measuring.

   Note:

   This tool supports snapping. To disable snapping temporarily, press the Ctrl key while drawing.

3. Double-click to complete the measurement.

   An orange-white polygon is displayed on the map with measurements attached to it.

4. Click the New measurement button to start a new measurement.

   The previous measurement disappears from the map. Go back to step 2 to start a new measurement.
