You can upload an image file such as a scanned paper map or a site plan to a plan scenario. The image file doesn't need to be georeferenced. Use the Transform and Reshape image tools to position it at its geographical location.
Licensed users with editing permissions can do the following when working with images in Urban:
- Upload an image.
- Replace an image.
- Position an image.
- Copy an image to another scenario.
- Change the display order of images.
- Delete an image.
Upload an image
To upload an image file to a plan scenario, complete the following steps:
- Open the plan editor.
- Click the Details button
in the header to access the details mode.
- Click the Upload image button
on the workflow toolbar at the right of the view.
- Locate the image file on your computer and upload it.
Urban only supports JPG, JPEG, and PNG image formats. Additionally, the image has to be smaller than 2048x2048 pixels.
- The Upload in progress notification banner appears at the bottom of the screen. Once the image file is successfully uploaded, the File uploaded successfully banner appears instead.
- By default, the image is placed in the center of the view.
- Click Resize and rotation to start positioning the image. See Transform an image and Reshape an image for details.
Alternatively, click the Close button
on the banner if you don't want to change the image position.
Note:
- An image that you upload to Urban is stored as a media layer item in your portal account.
- When you upload an image, the media layer item gets the same sharing level assigned as the plan. If the sharing level of the plan gets updated after uploading an image, the sharing level of the media layer is not updated automatically.
- To switch an image on or off when you're editing or viewing a plan, click the image name in the Scenario context section on the Options menu
.
Replace an image
You can replace an existing image that you uploaded with a new image file. You cannot replace an image that another user uploaded. The new image will be positioned the same as the existing image it replaces.
Complete the following steps to replace an image:
- Open the plan editor.
- Click the Details button
in the header to access the details mode.
- Select the image you want to replace by clicking it in the map.
The Image pop-up appears.
- Click Choose file.
- Locate the image file on your computer and upload it.
Urban only supports JPG, JPEG, and PNG image formats. Additionally, the image has to be smaller than 2048x2048 pixels.
- The Upload in progress notification banner appears at the bottom of the screen. Once the image file is successfully uploaded, the File uploaded successfully banner appears instead.
- The new image is positioned like the image it replaced.
- Click Resize and rotation to open the Modify image toolbar and start positioning the image. See Transform an image and Reshape an image for details.
Alternatively, click the Close button
on the banner if you don't want to change the image position.
Position an image
There are two tools to position an image in the map and align it with the urban model's basemap or other spatial data:
- Use the Transform tool to move and rotate the image or change its aspect ratio. See Transform an image for details.
- Use the Reshape image tool to position an image by skewing it. You can achieve this either by moving each corner of the image individually or by positioning control points on the image and then moving the control points to their corresponding geographical position. Control points are points on the image for which you know the exact coordinates. See Reshape an image for details.
Both tools are accessible from the Modify image toolbar. Complete the following steps to open the Modify image toolbar:
- Open the plan editor.
- Select the image you want to position by clicking it in the map.
The Image pop-up appears.
- Click Modify.
The Modify image toolbar appears.
Transform an image
Complete the following steps to move and rotate an image or change its aspect ratio:
- Ensure the Modify image toolbar is open.
To open the toolbar, complete the steps described in Position an image or click Resize and rotation on the notification banner after uploading or replacing an image.
- Ensure that the Transform button
is selected.
- Transform the image:
- Move the image-Click anywhere on the image and drag the pointer.
- Rotate the image-Click and drag the rotate handle.
- Change the aspect ratio of the image-Click one of the four image corners and drag the pointer.
- Click Done.
The Modify image toolbar closes.
Reshape an image
Use the Reshape image tool to position an image by skewing it. By default, the four corners of an image are control points for which you can define their location on the map. You can also move the four control points to a different position on the image.
Complete the following steps to position an image with the Reshape image tool:
- Ensure the Modify image toolbar is open.
To open the toolbar complete the steps described in Position an image or click Resize and rotation on the notification banner after uploading or replacing an image.
- Click the Reshape image button
from the Modify image toolbar in the header.
The four corners of the image are defined as control points by default and highlighted in the map with orange dots.
- Optionally, move any of the four control points to a different position on the image.
- Click Position control points on image from the Reshape image toolbar in the header.
The four corners of the image are highlighted in the map with an orange dot.
- Click and drag any of the four control points to a different position on the image.
Note:
This only changes the position of a control point on the image. It doesn't change how the image itself is located on the map. - Click Done.
The Position control points on image mode closes. The Reshape image toolbar appears in the header.
- Click Position control points on image from the Reshape image toolbar in the header.
- Move the control points to their corresponding geographical location in the map:
- Click the control point and drag the pointer in the map-Move a control point to its approximate geographical location.
- Click the control point and press the Tab key-Input coordinates to move a control point to its exact geographical location.
Copy an image to a scenario
Complete the following steps to copy an image to a scenario:
- Open the plan editor.
- Select the image you want to change the display order for by clicking it in the map.
The Image pop-up appears.
- Click the Copy to scenario button
.
The Copy to scenario dialog box appears.
- Select the target scenario from the drop-down list.
- Click OK.
The target scenario opens and the selected image is copied to that scenario.
Change the display order of images
Complete the following steps to change the display order of images in the map:
- Open the plan editor.
- Select the image you want to change the display order for by clicking it in the map.
The Image pop-up appears.
- Click Modify.
The Modify image toolbar appears.
- Click the Move forward button
to move the selected image one step up in the order how images in that scenario are displayed.
The button is disabled if there is just one image in that scenario or if the selected image is already displayed at the frontmost position.
- Click the Move backward button
to move the selected image one step back in the order how images in that scenario are displayed.
The button is disabled if there is just one image in that scenario or if the selected image is already displayed at the backmost position.
Delete an image
Complete the following steps to delete an image that you uploaded:
- Open the plan editor.
- Select the image you want to delete by clicking it in the map.
The Image pop-up appears.
- Click Modify.
The Modify image toolbar appears.
- Click Delete
.
- The image is removed from the scenario.
- The Modify image toolbar closes.
- The associated media layer item is still stored in your portal account.
