You can use the shadow cast analysis to analyze the impact of shadows at a specific date for a certain time range. You can define one of the following visualizations: areas above threshold, total shadow duration, or discrete shadows.
Work with shadow cast in the overview
The shadow cast analysis is available in the overview as an interactive analysis. The results are not persisted. To activate the shadow cast analysis in the overview, complete the following steps:
- Expand the Analysis button toolbar
in the lower right corner of the view.
- Select the Shadow cast analysis tool
.
The shadow cast analysis tool opens with a toolbar at the top of the map.
- Configure different parameters for the shadow cast analysis.
See the Work with shadow cast in plans and projects section below to learn more about the different parameters.
- Click Done to close the shadow cast analysis tool.
Work with shadow cast in plans and projects
In plans and projects, the shadow cast analysis is available in the analysis mode where the results are persisted. See Analyze a plan or Analyze a project to learn how to access the analysis mode.
To configure a shadow cast analysis in a plan or project, complete the following steps:
- Open the analysis mode.
- Select the shadow cast analysis you want to configure from the analysis list or create a shadow cast analysis.
The analysis configuration panel appears.
- Provide a name and description for the analysis.
- Select the specific date and time range for the shadow cast analysis.
- Select the visualization in the Visualization drop-down menu and configure the visualization parameters.
You can choose between the following modes:
- Areas above threshold—Display only the areas that are covered by shadows for more than a certain number of hours. Change the threshold value (in hours) using the slider. The discrete shadows are shown for context. Use the Time interval drop-down menu to choose the interval at which the discrete shadow panels are visualized. The interval does not impact the calculation of the threshold area.
- Total shadow duration—Display the duration of the cumulative shadow using opacity. Areas that are not covered by shadows are fully transparent. The transparency decreases the longer an area is covered by shadows. Continuous (continuous change in transparency) and hourly (transparency changes each hour) visualization modes are available.
- Discrete shadows—Display individual shadows at a given time interval. You can specify the time interval in the drop-down list.
- Click the Color button to select the color and opacity of the shadow visualization on the map.
The color picker appears.
- Select a color and set the opacity.
The color of the shadow analysis adapts accordingly.
- Click anywhere outside of the color picker to confirm the value.
The color picker closes.
