Guided tour

Surveys, forms, polls, and questionnaires are basically the same thing: a list of questions. Questions, however, are an excellent means of gathering information for decision-making and taking action.

ArcGIS Survey123 is a data-gathering solution that allows you to create, share, and analyze surveys in a few steps.

For lessons on how to use Survey123 using real-world examples, see Learn ArcGIS.

Create and publish a survey

To create and publish a survey, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the Survey123 website. Sign in to your ArcGIS organizational account.

    Using ArcGIS Online

Go to https://survey123.arcgis.com and click Sign In.

    Using ArcGIS Enterprise

Go to https://survey123.arcgis.com?portalUrl=https://host.domain.com/webadaptor (where host, domain, and webadaptor are replaced by information about your portal) and click Sign In.

  2. Click New survey.
  3. Click Get started on the Blank survey tile.

Alternatively, you can click Get started on the Template survey tile. Browse the survey templates in the Organization, Esri, and Community categories. The categories you can see depend on the settings chosen by your organization administrator. Click a template's tile to see a preview of the survey. To select a template, click Use this template.

A survey is created and opened for you to view. A preview of the survey appears on the left, and the pane on the right contains a list of usable question types. Clicking the survey's title in the navigation bar will allow you to change it.

  4. If you chose to start from a blank survey, add at least one question of any type.

Including a question in your survey allows you to preview and publish it.

  5. Click the Publish button at the lower right.

Your survey is available to be opened and used by users with the URL provided in the Link button at the upper right.

  3. When you've completed the survey, select Submit at the end of the survey.

A message appears, telling you that the survey has been submitted successfully and prompting you to fill in another entry.

View results

To view the results of your survey, complete the following steps:

  2. Choose the survey you just created.

On both the Overview and Data tabs, you'll see an entry for the survey you just submitted.

Copy or delete a survey

To create a survey based on an existing survey in the Survey123 website, click the menu button in the lower right corner of its card and click Save As. Edit the title and tags for the new survey if necessary, and click Save As. The Survey123 website copies the existing survey and opens the copy, allowing you to use the existing content as the basis for a new survey.

To delete a survey from the Survey123 website, click the menu button next to its name, and click Delete. To confirm your action, type your survey's name to delete the survey. You can also delete all data collected through the survey if the survey was created from scratch, rather than from an existing feature layer. If you created your survey using an existing feature layer located in a different folder, it is not deleted.

If your survey has been published, deleting it also deletes feature service views and report templates, as well as the folder itself if the folder is empty. If there are items in the survey folder that aren't related to the survey, they are not deleted.
