Create a map

A map is a spatial document composed of one or more layers that provides a geographic view of data and helps you explore and interact with that data. A layer can represent geographic features, such as buildings, landmarks, and x,y coordinates (points); networks, such as roads and rivers (lines); and boundaries, such as cities, postal codes, and countries (polygons). Layers can include imagery, surface elevation, cell-based grids, and practically any data feed that includes location—for example, weather gauges, traffic conditions, security cameras, and social media posts. Each layer is the basis for geographic analysis.

You can use ArcGIS for SharePoint to display data on a map. You can combine your data with content from ArcGIS to add context. When you sign in to your ArcGIS account, you can also add content from members of your organization and GIS professionals around the world to a map. Contextual ArcGIS layers can include content from your ArcGIS organization or ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World, as well as demographic data such as household income, age, or population counts.

You can create a map by inserting an ArcGIS for SharePoint web part.
