A basemap provides a background, or visual context, for the data in a map. For example, a basemap showing streets can provide context for address data. ArcGIS for SharePoint includes a selection of basemaps, including aerial imagery, terrain, streets, and topographic data.
When you first add an ArcGIS for SharePoint map, the default basemap is determined by your ArcGIS administrator. You can change the basemap if this capability has been enabled by your ArcGIS administrator; however, a basemap is required for all maps and cannot be removed. Unlike other layers, you cannot change a basemap's style.
To choose a basemap, complete the following steps:
- Edit the map-enabled SharePoint page and activate edit mode for the web part.
Although you can change the basemap in run mode, the change is not saved with the map. To save changes, the web part must be in edit mode.
- From the map tools, click Basemap
.
The Basemap gallery appears, showing thumbnails of available basemaps.
Note:
Four standard basemaps are available to guest users. If you are signed in to an ArcGIS account, the availability of organization basemaps is determined by your ArcGIS administrator.
- Click a basemap to select it.
The map automatically updates to the new basemap.
- Click Close
to close the Basemap gallery and view the map.
