ArcGIS for SharePoint user interface

The ArcGIS for SharePoint user interface (UI) includes the web part and the primary and secondary panes used for creating a map.

ArcGIS for SharePoint web part

In ArcGIS for SharePoint, you can display SharePoint lists, ArcGIS-hosted feature services, and ArcGIS web maps on an interactive map. The ArcGIS for SharePoint web part, like any SharePoint web part, has an edit mode and a run mode. For more information, see the Edit mode and run mode help topic.

SharePoint web part

With the ArcGIS for SharePoint web part, you can do the following:

  • Add interactive maps to a SharePoint page.
  • Add location-based lists or ArcGIS content to maps.
  • Add context and precision to location-based lists with Esri Demographics data.
  • Share maps and layers from ArcGIS with the public or with your organization.
  • Locate your SharePoint content using location attributes by geotagging and geosearching.

Layers pane

In ArcGIS for SharePoint, you can use the Layers pane to add, style, and rearrange the layer order.

To display the Layers pane, click the Layers button Layers in the map tools. Each layer in a map is represented in the Layers tab of the Layers pane.

Layers list

The following are the UI items in the Layers pane and correspond to the numbers in the image above:

  1. Expand layer contents—Expand or collapse the layer legend.
  2. Active layer indicator—Identify the active layer.
  3. Symbology—Open the symbology options. From the Symbology tab, you can select the active layer you want to work with and if there are specific fields, or data attributes, you want to symbolize. Select a symbol type (also known as smart mapping). The available choices in the Symbol type drop-down menu vary based on the layer and attributes you have selected. For more information about the symbology tab options, see the Symbol types topic.
  4. Layer name—View the name of the layer.
  5. Style options—Access symbol styling options. From this tab, you can enable and configure clustering, adjust the layer's styling options (including any options unique to the symbology, such as classification methods), and adjust transparency and rotation by attribute.
  6. Layer properties—Enable pop-ups, the visible range, labels, transparency, and automatic refresh using the layer properties.
  7. Editor—Access the Editor tool. The tool may be disabled if there are no editable layers.
  8. Add—Add geocoded SharePoint lists and document libraries or add content from ArcGIS Online and your organizational account.
  9. Share layer button—Share the layer to your ArcGIS organization. If you've already shared the layer, this button changes to Update layer.
  10. Close—Close the Layers list.
  11. More options—More layer options, such as zoom to the layer, duplicate the layer, view the layer in ArcGIS, or delete the layer appear. If you have permissions to save changes made to the properties of the layer, the Save to ArcGIS button Save to ArcGIS appears.
  12. Hide layer—Click to hide the layer. Click again to show the layer.

To return to the layers list, click the Layers tab Layers.
