Create a project

Complete the following steps to create an ArcGIS GeoBIM project:

Note:

See User role and feature access documentation before you create an ArcGIS GeoBIM project.

  1. Open the ArcGIS GeoBIM Projects page.
  2. Click Create New.

The Create Project Info dialog box opens to 1. Establish your project profile and displays the project spatial reference that will be used to create the project.

    Note:

The spatial reference shown is based on the default basemap that is assigned to your organization. Learn how to set the basemap gallery and default basemap.

The basemap selection can also be edited on the next page of the Create Project Info dialog box.

  3. Provide a name for the project in the Name text box.

    Tip:
Only alphanumeric characters, spaces, and underscores are allowed.

  4. Optionally, provide a description of the project in the Description text box.
  5. Optionally, click Edit thumbnail to select a thumbnail image for the project.

    Tip:
Thumbnail images must be less than 10 MB and 5000 x 5000 pixels.

  6. Click Next.

The next step in the dialog box, 2. Choose your basemap to define your project's spatial reference, displays.

  7. Choose your basemap to define your project's spatial reference.

    The following options are available:

    • Organization's default basemap—This option is selected by default and displays your organization's default basemap spatial reference.
    • Other basemaps—Choose this option to use a basemap with a different spatial reference from your organization's basemap gallery.
  8. If you chose the Other basemaps option, click Next. If you are using the Organization's default basemap option, skip to step 10.

The final step in the dialog box, 3. Other basemaps, opens and displays the 2D basemaps from your basemap gallery group. Each basemap's title, description, and spatial reference is displayed next to the thumbnail preview.

  9. Select the basemap to use for the ArcGIS GeoBIM project.
  10. Click OK.

The following items are created and saved in your My content collection:

    • Feature layer (hosted)—The associated feature layer that hosts the attribute data for your GeoBIM project. It includes Documents, Issues, Schedules, BIMProjects, Location Notes, Line Notes, and Area Notes layers. The feature layer name is your GeoBIM project name followed by the word Service.
    • GeoBIM project—The GeoBIM project item displays on the Projects page. The project uses the exact name that was entered during project creation.
    • Web map—The GeoBIM project map includes the Documents, Issues, and BIMProjects layers, and it will display by default in the Map widget on the Tools and Links pages. The web map name is your GeoBIM project name followed by the words Project Map.

After all items are created, the project opens to the Accounts page. You're now ready to create a project account.
