The Add Project Boundaries tool creates 2D polygon boundaries on a map based on aggregated document extents. This tool includes a few different output shape options and at least one must be selected to run the tool.
Use case
This tool can be utilized to outline the boundaries of project areas which helps to visualize and understand the overall spatial extent and relationships between aggregated document extents.
Tool settings
The Add Project Boundaries tool settings allow users to select up to four output shapes to track the overall extents of files in their individual BIM projects.

Element | Description |
---|---|
1 | Select the Merged Document Boundaries output to aggregate polygons which represent the geometric union of document features based on the ID of the project. Gaps are allowed with this setting. See Union (Analysis) to learn more. Note:By default, this output shape is selected in the tool settings. |
2 | Select the (No holes) output to aggregate polygons which represent the geometric union of document features based on the ID of the project. Gaps are not allowed with this setting. See Union (Analysis) to learn more. |
3 | Select the Wrapped Document Boundaries output to create polygons which represent the minimum bounding geometry of all documents based on the ID of the project. See Minimum Bounding Geometry to learn more. |
4 | Select the Enveloped Document Boundaries output to get the envelope geometry of all document features based on the ID of the project. See Feature Envelope To Polygon to learn more. |
5 | Click the Save button to store your configuration settings. |
Configure the tool
To configure the Add Project Boundaries tool, complete the following steps:
- Select the Add Project Boundaries tool
.
Note:
By default, Add Document Extents will always be selected as the all-encompassing shape for the project boundary based on the extents of the 2D document polygons.
- Click the Settings button
to configure the output shapes.
Note:
You must select at least one output shape.
- Click Save. The tool settings close.
Output
Once the tools have successfully completed, the BIM Projects table will be populated with the list of successfully synchronized output summary shapes per Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) or BIM 360 project. The BIM Projects table provides a combination of BIM project information from each ACC or BIM 360 project selected, as well as GIS feature layer data.
Limitations
The project boundary shapes will not be accurate if some of the selected documents fail to synchronize the ArcGIS GeoBIM project.
