The Document Viewer, Document Explorer, and Link Explorer widgets in ArcGIS Experience Builder allow you to use Autodesk Docs and ArcGIS to build workflow-specific, creative experiences for BIM and GIS project stakeholders. To use these widgets, you must authenticate with Autodesk to access Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) or BIM 360 project data.

Use cases
These ArcGIS Experience Builder widgets enable use cases that would not be possible when working with preconfigured apps:
- Project engineers can choose from a variety of app templates tailored to align with project-specific needs and workflows. By integrating specialized widgets with a combination of the Document Viewer, Document Explorer, and Link Explorer widgets, engineers can enhance project planning and management for developments that stretch over vast distances.
- Architects can create custom and interactive apps to analyze their latest published designs uploaded with the BIM Cloud Connection tool in ArcGIS Pro. These apps and automated tools can significantly reduce the onboarding effort for teams that are not accustomed to working in GIS environments, leading to quicker adoption and recognized value.
- Operations managers can link their custom apps to other third-party data environments and tie into mobile workflows that facilitate collaborative data sharing between teams in the office and those tasked with completing project-specific tasks on site.
- AEC developers can scale custom apps as project complexity and scope increases over time. Adapting to the changing needs of the project ensures smoother project workflows that are mutually complemented through increased productivity and efficiency.
- Project executives can establish a brand presence for their projects, attracting potential clients and investors. Incorporating company branding into intelligent apps can widen the scope of their visual identity, setting them apart from competitors and showcasing a professional output.
Getting started
The Document Viewer, Document Explorer, and Link Explorer widgets extend GIS and BIM integration to customizable, user-centric ArcGIS Experience Builder apps. To use these widgets, you must have the following:
- An ACC or BIM 360 project with Autodesk Docs
- A Contributor or above ArcGIS user type. To learn more, see User types, roles, and privileges.
In addition, you must link either of the following datasource types to the Map widget:
- A web map or scene containing feature layers with links specified in an ArcGIS GeoBIM project
- A web map or scene containing BIM content added using the BIM Cloud Connection tool in ArcGIS Pro
All three widgets can be found on the ArcGIS Experience Builder Map centric tab.
Element | Description |
---|---|
1 | The Document Explorer widget provides a comprehensive view of supported documents in ACC or BIM 360 projects. Select documents from this widget to view the latest published version in the Document Viewer widget. Note:The Document Explorer widget will only work with data sources that contain a single ArcGIS GeoBIM feature service. |
2 | The Document Viewer widget integrates the Autodesk APS Viewer within the ArcGIS Experience Builder environment. View and interact with project engineering documents alongside pertinent GIS data to make informed decisions that affect project delivery. |
3 | The Link Explorer widget allows you to view a complete list of linked ACC or BIM 360 project documents that are associated with GIS features in your web map or scene. Select individual links to visualize them in the Document Viewer widget or add multiple Document Viewer widgets to analyze multiple source documents. |
