Use Wildlife Management

The Wildlife Management solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you capture wildlife observations, monitor wildlife populations, and analyze trends in protected areas.

In this topic, you’ll learn how to use the solution by assuming the role of a user and performing the workflows below.

Note:
Use your organization's data or configured apps to follow these workflows.

Collect wildlife observations

The Rapid Wildlife Reporter app can be used to quickly capture wildlife observations in the field using a simple big button interface. The Wildlife Observation Reporter app can be used to capture detailed wildlife counts, information about the health of observed animals, and photos of the observation. Both can be used on a mobile device in a connected or disconnected environment.

Collect rapid wildlife observations

You will start by assuming the role of a mobile worker in a protected area collecting observations of wildlife. You are asked to use the Rapid Wildlife Reporter app to collect rapid observations.

  1. Download ArcGIS QuickCapture onto your mobile device.
  2. In ArcGIS QuickCapture, open the Rapid Wildlife Reporter app.
  3. Tap the image of the animal that you have observed.
  4. For Total Animals, type the number of animals, and then click Done.
  5. Repeat these steps to add additional animal observations.
  6. After recording your observations, close the project.
Note:

By default, wildlife observations automatically send when your device is in connected mode. Before sending, you can click the Map button and view the wildlife observation locations on a map, and then, if necessary, you can adjust the location.

Collect detailed wildlife observations

You will start by assuming the role of a mobile worker in a protected area collecting observations of wildlife. You are asked to use the Wildlife Observation Reporter to collect detailed observations.

  1. On a mobile device, in ArcGIS Survey123, open the Wildlife Observation Reporter form.
  2. Tap Collect.
  3. Complete the survey with as much information as possible.
    Note:

Required information is marked with a red asterisk.

  4. Tap the check mark to submit the form, and then tap Send now.

Monitor wildlife observations

Now you will assume the role of a protected area manager. You will view wildlife observations throughout the protected area.

  1. In a browser, sign in to your ArcGIS organization, and then browse to the Wildlife Management solution.
  2. View the Wildlife Observation Dashboard app.

The Wildlife Observation Dashboard app opens with an overview of the current program status.

  3. On the left, adjust the filters to refine the results.
  4. On the right, select an observation from the list.

The map zooms to the location of the observation, and a pop-up with more information appears.

  5. Review the observation details.
