Locking and unlocking geographies

Esri Redistricting has a locking feature. Locking prevents the selected geography from being assigned to a district other than the district to which it is locked. Locking also prevents a geography from being unassigned. All geographies by default are unlocked.

  1. Click the desired locking option:
    • Lock Geography Lock Geography button prevents the selected geography from being assigned to a district other than the district to which it is already assigned.
    • Unlock Geography Unlock Geography button allows the geography to be assigned to districts.
  2. Click the geography on the map that you want to lock/unlock.

Based on whether the Lock Geography Lock Geography button or Unlock Geography Unlock Geography button tool is used, the selected geography is locked/unlocked. On the map, you can see that a locked geography is symbolized with a crosshatch pattern.
