Configure analysis layers

Note:

This functionality is currently only supported in Map Viewer Classic. It will be available in a future release of Map Viewer.

As an ArcGIS Online administrator, you can guide organization members to a specific group of layers that you decide are appropriate for use in Map Viewer Classic analysis.

Browse to analysis layers

You can access analysis layers from any analysis tool by expanding the menu for an input layer and clicking Choose Analysis Layer.

By default, the following options are available:

  • My Content—Includes layers you own.
  • My Favorites—Includes layers you've added to your list of favorite items.
  • My Groups—Includes layers from groups you belong to.
  • My Organization—Includes layers from your organization.
  • ArcGIS Online—Includes layers you've added, layers from your organization and groups you belong to, and public layers.
  • Subscription Content—Includes ready-to-use layers published by Esri that require an organizational subscription account to access.
  • Living Atlas Analysis Layers—Includes layers from ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World that have been optimized for use in Map Viewer Classic analysis tools.

Specify a group of layers for analysis

Use the following steps to configure a group of layers for organization members to use in Map Viewer Classic analysis tools:

  1. Sign in to the organization as a member with a default administrator role.
  2. Create a group with the following settings:
    • Set Who can view this group to People in the organization (<Organization name>). You can then choose who you allow to join the group.
    • If you want the group to only contain the content you designate, set Who can contribute content to the group to Only group owner and managers.
  3. Share the layers you want used for analysis to the group.
  4. Click Organization > Settings > Map.
  5. Under the Analysis layers heading, click the group name, find the group you created on the list, and select it.

    Your selection is saved automatically.

Content from the selected group appears in the Choose Analysis Layer window on the Organization Analysis Group tab.
