Configure an ArcGIS Enterprise portal for ArcGIS IPS

ArcGIS Enterprise must be licensed for the ArcGIS IPS extension and have users created with appropriate roles and types to connect ArcGIS IPS Setup to your ArcGIS Enterprise portal.

An ArcGIS Enterprise portal administrator must import the license file for ArcGIS IPS into the portal. You can then set permissions for members of your organization, and set certain functionality in ArcGIS Pro. Once you set permission levels for members and enable access to ArcGIS Pro functionality, they can access the indoor positioning tools in ArcGIS Pro after they connect and sign in to the Enterprise portal.

Import the ArcGIS IPS license file

Complete the following steps to import the license file:

  1. Import the license file through the Enterprise portal.
  2. Ensure that ArcGIS IPS is listed as an organizational extension.
    1. Click the Organization tab and click Licenses.
    2. Click Organization extensions.
    3. Verify that ArcGIS IPS is listed.

Configure the security certificate

The portal must have a valid Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate from a trusted entity for the IPS Setup to securely connect and download maps. Mobile devices have built-in security features that prevent connections to servers that do not have a valid certificate.

If your organization uses self-signed or Enterprise CA certificates, the same certificate must be installed on every mobile device running the IPS Setup app for the device to establish trust with the server and connect safely.

You can install certificates and view existing certificates that are installed on the mobile device by tapping Settings > General > Profiles.

Note:

If self-signed certificates are not installed on the mobile device, a dialog box repeatedly appears requiring credentials.

Configure the identity store

In ArcGIS Enterprise, you can use enterprise accounts and groups to control access to your ArcGIS organization. Use an organization-specific identity store to set policies for password expiration and complexity, control access using existing Active Directory, LDAP, or SAML groups, or use authentication.

Note:

IPS Setup versions 1.0 through 1.3 support the following authentication methods for iOS and Android devices: Built-in, IWA, SAML, LDAP, and PKI.

IPS Setup version 1.4 has been updated to support the ArcGIS Maps SDKs and supports the following Maps SDKs authentication methods:

  • iOS—Built-In, IWA, SAML, LDAP, and Portal tier
  • Android—Built-In, IWA, SAML, Portal tier, and PKI

The following authentication methods are not supported in IPS Setup version 1.4:

  • iOS—JavaPKI (Windows), PKI (Linux), and Kerberos (Windows)
  • Android—Kerberos (Windows) and LDAP (Linux)

Set up access to ArcGIS Pro

Complete the following steps to set permissions for the members of your organization who need to use ArcGIS Pro:

  1. Assign the GIS Professional Standard user type (or higher) to the named users in your organization who you want to have access to ArcGIS Pro.
  2. Assign these named users the Publisher role (or higher) and the ArcGIS IPS user type extension.

Members of your organization who need to use ArcGIS Pro must connect to this portal before using the indoor positioning tools.

Set up access to ArcGIS IPS Setup

Members of your organization who perform surveys in the IPS Setup app must be assigned the Editor user type (or higher) and the ArcGIS IPS user type extension. Members who only test the indoor positioning system in the IPS Setup app must be assigned the Viewer user type (or higher) and do not require the ArcGIS IPS user type extension.
