Enable Bluetooth-based indoor positioning

Available for an ArcGIS organization licensed with the ArcGIS IPS extension.

You can configure Bluetooth-based indoor positioning using Bluetooth beacons in your indoor space.

To enable Bluetooth-based indoor positioning, complete the following steps:

  1. License your organization with the ArcGIS IPS organizational extension for ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise.
  2. Create an ArcGIS IPS Information Model to host and manage your indoor positioning data.
  3. Define indoor positioning areas.
  4. Identify walls and other boundaries that surround defined indoor positioning areas.
  5. Prepare a beacon placement plan to decide the number of beacons to install.
  6. Use the IPS Setup app and the beacon placement plan to install beacons throughout your indoor spaces.
    Note:

You must update the beacon point positions in the beacon placement plan during beacon installation if there is any deviation from the original plan to keep the plan updated.

After installing beacons, you can create positioning data.

  7. Create positioning data using ArcGIS Pro.
  8. Share the positioning data as an indoor positioning data service.
  9. Create an indoor positioning system (IPS)-aware indoor map of your facilities.

You can now deploy live locations indoors.
