Introduction to Traffic Crash Analysis

Traffic Crash Analysis can be used to analyze crash data and identify streets and intersections where concentrations of serious and fatal crashes occur.

Safety is one of the most important factors to consider when evaluating a road network. Analyzing crashes that occur at intersections and along roadways to determine where a high percentage of serious injury and fatalities occur is a key aspect of the safety evaluation. The result of this analysis is generally referred to as a High Injury Network (HIN). It helps inform engineering, education, and enforcement decisions and also serves as the foundation for Complete Streets or Vision Zero initiatives adopted to reduce fatalities or serious injury on roadways in the community. Traffic Crash Analysis is typically implemented by transportation, public works, and public safety agencies that want to use data-driven strategies to improve safety along the transportation network.

The Traffic Crash Analysis solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you to analyze crash data using methodologies defined by the United States Road Assessment Program (usRAP) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), identify locations where concentrations of serious injury and fatal crashes occur, and share the results with decision makers and the public.

Deploy the solution

This ArcGIS solution can be deployed in your ArcGIS organization.

See Deploying a solution for more information.

Requirements

Traffic Crash Analysis requires the following:

  • ArcGIS Enterprise
  • ArcGIS Pro 2.5 or later (Advanced)

Information products

Traffic Crash Analysis includes the following information products:

ItemDescriptionMinimum user type

Crash Analysis

An ArcGIS Pro project used by transportation, public works, and public safety staff to analyze crash data and identify streets and intersections where concentrations of serious and fatal crashes occur.

GIS Professional Basic

Fatal and Serious Injury Dashboard

An ArcGIS Experience Builder app used by the public and other interested stakeholders to locate traffic crashes that resulted in serious injury or fatality to motorists, cyclists, or pedestrians.

Viewer (required if dashboard is used for internal purposes only)

High Injury Network Locator

A Nearby app used by the public and other interested stakeholders to locate streets and intersections where concentrations of serious and fatal traffic crashes occur.

Viewer (required if app is used for internal purposes only)

When you deploy this solution in your ArcGIS organization, you also get an ArcGIS solution item that organizes the key information products and summarizes all the ArcGIS items (applications, forms, projects, maps, feature layers, feature layer views, and so on) included with the solution. The ArcGIS solution item also illustrates any dependencies items have on each other.
