Get started with Workflow Manager

How you start with ArcGIS Workflow Manager depends on your duties in your organization. In larger organizations, the roles described here may be performed by one person or several people. In smaller organizations, there may be large overlaps between each role.

Manage workflows as an administrator

The responsibility of a workflow administrator is to configure workflow diagrams, set up job templates, update system settings, and administer workflow items. The following is an overview of the steps for managing workflow items and work in the Workflow Manager web app:

  1. Access the Workflow Manager web app.
  2. Create workflow diagrams.
  3. Create job templates.
  4. Create jobs.
  5. Run jobs.
  6. Manage jobs.
  7. Administer Workflow Manager.

Manage work as a production coordinator

The responsibility of a production coordinator is to create, monitor, and update work in the Workflow Manager system in real-time to improve efficiency and coordination of field and office workers and their job duties. The following is an overview of the steps for managing work in the Workflow Manager web app:

  1. Access the Workflow Manager web app.
  2. Create jobs.
  3. Manage job properties.
  4. Monitor job status.
  5. Search for jobs.

Workflow Manager general user

The responsibility of a general user is to find work assigned to them; filter the work by a category, such as priority; start a job; and complete job duties. Work can be completed in the Workflow Manager web app, ArcGIS Pro, or both products to complete their work depending on the requirements. Refer to the appropriate section for the steps required for completing work.

Work in the Workflow Manager web app

The following is an overview of the steps for completing work in the Workflow Manager web app:

  1. Access the Workflow Manager web app.
  2. Find and run jobs.
  3. Manage job properties.

Work in ArcGIS Pro

ArcGIS Pro is usually only required when you are assigned an advanced editing step in a job's workflow. You can also use ArcGIS Pro to run any additional steps that are assigned to you in a job's workflow, and you may never need to access the Workflow Manager web app to complete your duties. The process for completing work in ArcGIS Pro is similar to the experience in the Workflow Manager web app but requires an additional Workflow Manager extension license. The following is an overview of the steps for completing work in ArcGIS Pro:

  1. Connect to Workflow Manager.
  2. Find and run jobs.
