Vectronic Aerospace

The Vectronic Aerospace feed type in ArcGIS Velocity creates a built-in HTTP endpoint to receive global positioning system (GPS) data from Vectronic Aerospace wildlife tracking collars. The data transmitted from these collars can be used for wildlife monitoring and real-time movement analysis.

Examples

The following are example use cases for the feed:

  • A wildlife biologist uses data from wildlife tracking collars to analyze wildlife migration patterns.
  • A department of transportation uses data from wildlife tracking collars to update dynamic message signs (DMS) to remind motorists to stay alert and slow down when animals are in the area.
  • Stakeholders use insights from wildlife tracking collars to inform planning for secure and sustainable wildlife corridors.

Usage notes

Keep the following in mind when working with the feed:

  • This feed is designed to receive data directly from Vectronic Aerospace only.
  • The feed supports configuring key fields, removing unwanted fields, and adjusting field names. All Vectronic Aerospace fields are visible when defining the schema, regardless of the values selected for the Data Event Types parameter. Adding new fields is not supported, as the schema is predetermined based on the data provided by Vectronic Aerospace.
  • After setting the Data Event Types parameter, adjust the schema and define the key fields by configuring input data. When using the scts or acquisitionTime field to configure the Date and Time parameter on the Identify Key Fields page, choose the Other (string) in the Date format option and type yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ssZ in the Date Formatting String option.
  • After creating this feed type, access the feed’s Item Details page and copy the Rest Endpoint Path receiver URL available under the Feed details section. This URL must be entered into your Inventa account preferences to start receiving data from Vectronic Aerospace.

Data Event Types

The Data Event Types parameter filters data received from Vectronic Aerospace using the dataEventType field. The data event types available are described below:

  • GPS Position—Provides data on GPS positions of your study animals.
  • Mortality—Detects if a study animal has died by monitoring the heartbeat, body temperature, and motion.
  • Proximity—Monitors interactions between different study animals, such as between a predator and its prey or between individuals from separate social groups.
  • Separation—Tracks when the mother moves away from the calving site. This event can also be used to study intergroup dynamics.
  • Vaginal Implant—Provides data about birth events.
  • Activity—Provides data on the activity of your study animals, such as movements and behaviors.
