Before installing or upgrading ArcGIS Reality Studio, ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements to run it. Also, learn what resources are recommended for best performance.
Supported operating systems
The software is supported on the Microsoft Windows operating systems listed below, as long as the operating system is also currently supported by its provider for general or public use.
Operating system | Latest update or service pack tested |
---|---|
Windows 11 Home, Pro, and Enterprise (64 bit) | April 2024 update |
Windows 10 Home, Pro, and Enterprise (64 bit) | April 2024 update |
Windows Server 2022 Standard and Datacenter (64 bit) | April 2024 update |
Windows Server 2019 Standard and Datacenter (64 bit) | April 2024 update |
Windows Server 2016 Standard and Datacenter (64 bit) | April 2024 update |
Note:
- Prior and future updates or service packs for these operating system versions are supported unless otherwise stated. The operating system version and updates must also be supported by the operating system provider.
- The Desktop Experience option is required on all versions of Windows Server.
Hardware requirements
The minimum, recommended, and optimal requirements to run ArcGIS Reality Studio are listed below. Minimum requirements will support the application, but may not perform well. Recommended requirements perform well in most situations. Best performance is gained using the Optimal requirements.
Item | Supported and recommended | |
---|---|---|
CPU | Minimum: 6 cores, simultaneous multithreading | |
Recommended: 24 cores; 3.0 GHz or higher clock speed per core. ArcGIS Reality Studio can use up to 48 CPU threads. Examples: Intel Xeon/i9/i7 or AMD Threadripper/Epyc | ||
Platform | x64 | |
Storage | Recommended free local storage for project directory: 1 TB | |
Recommended free local storage for contributing nodes: 1 TB | ||
Recommended free network storage based on dataset size: 1,500 images or fewer: 4 TB 5,000 images or fewer: 12 TB 10,000 images or fewer: 24 TB 70,000 images or fewer: 32 TB | ||
Memory/RAM | Recommended based on dataset size: 10,000 images or fewer: 64 GB 30,000 images or fewer: 128 GB 70,000 images or fewer: 256 GB Available memory is dynamically used to improve performance. | |
Dedicated or integrated GPU | A dedicated GPU is strongly recommended. Minimum dedicated (not shared) memory: 4 GB. If you're using a notebook computer with an integrated GPU, consider increasing the system RAM to compensate for the use of shared memory. | |
Visualization cache | The temporary visualization cache can consume up to 32 GB of space, if available, in the user-selected location. By default, the visualization cache is written to the user profile’s \Local subfolder, so it does not roam with the user profile if roaming profiles are enabled by your system administrator. | |
DirectX* | Minimum: DirectX 11, feature level 11.0, Shader Model 5.0 | |
OpenGL* | Minimum: OpenGL 4.3 with the ARB_clip_control and EXT_texture_compression_s3tc extensions | |
Recommended: OpenGL 4.5 with the ARB_shader_draw_parameters, EXT_swap_control, EXT_texture_compression_s3tc, and EXT_texture_filter_anisotropic extensions | ||
Screen resolution | Minimum: 1024x768 | |
Network connection | Minimum: 1 Gigabit connection for both Network-attached storage (NAS) and contributors. | |
Recommended: 10 Gigabit connection for NAS, 1 Gigabit connection for contributors. |
The following are cloud instance types that meet hardware requirements:
Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Minimum: g4dn.4xlarge (available as an ArcGIS Image Dedicated Pro Machine of type Large_GPU) Refer to the hardware requirements to ensure the virtual desktop is configured with the appropriate amount of RAM for your project and the Elastic Block Store (EBS) storage you choose meets the combined storage requirements. |
Microsoft Azure | Minimum: NV12s v3 (available as an ArcGIS Image Dedicated Pro Machine of type Large_GPU) Refer to the hardware requirements to ensure the virtual desktop is configured with the appropriate amount of RAM for your project and the Locally Redundant Storage (LRS) storage you choose meets the combined storage requirements. |
* If DirectX requirements are not met, OpenGL is automatically used. You can also manually change to OpenGL, such as when you suspect an issue with the DirectX driver.
Note:
Use the latest available driver.
When using a GPU, ensure that it is currently supported by the manufacturer.
Cloud storage services, such as Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive, are not supported unless stated otherwise in the documentation about specific tools and functionality.
General-purpose computing on a GPU
Support for general-purpose computing on a GPU (GPGPU) using CUDA is not required to run the software but is highly recommended. GPGPU can also accelerate processing.
Item | Supported and recommended |
---|---|
GPU type | NVIDIA GPU with CUDA compute capability 5.0 minimum; 6.1 or later recommended. ArcGIS Reality Studio uses a single GPU. See the list of CUDA-enabled cards to determine compute capability of a GPU. Examples: RTX8000, RTX3090, Titan RTX, RTX6000, RTX3080, RTX2080Ti |
GPU driver | NVIDIA GPU drivers: version 527.41 or later is required. |
Dedicated graphics memory | Minimum: 6 GB |
Recommended: 20 GB or more | |
Memory requirements depend on the model architecture and batch size being used. Available memory is dynamically used to improve performance. |
Software requirements
The following software must be installed before installing ArcGIS Reality Studio:
Software | Minimum requirement |
---|---|
Microsoft .NET | Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.0 or a later patch release (8.0.1 and so on), using a Windows x64 installer, is required. The presence of Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 7 or later is inconsequential. Note:Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime is updated frequently. It is recommended that you install the latest patches as they become available. |
WebView2 Runtime | Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime version 117 or later is required. If it is not already installed on the machine, use the Evergreen Bootstrapper or Evergreen Standalone Installer from Microsoft. Note:A per-machine installation (the default) of ArcGIS Reality Studio requires a per-machine installation of WebView2 Runtime. To do this, right-click the WebView2 installer and click Run as administrator. |
ArcGIS Coordinate Systems Data | Some geographic transformations (for example, NTv2, GEOCON, and NADCON5) and vertical transformations based on geoids, quasi-geoids, or other conversion grids (for example, EGM and VERTCON) require files that are not installed with ArcGIS Reality Studio. This can lead to failed processes. Learn more about installing ArcGIS Coordinate Systems Data |
