Share groups

A group is a collection of items, usually related to a specific area of interest. You might want to share your group to showcase a project, add maps to a website, or provide critical information during an emergency.

The various ways to share your group with non-group members are outlined below.

Note:

To share group content with non-group members outside of your organization, you must make your group and its contents available to everyone.

Share a group

You can share your group from the Overview tab of the group page using any of the following methods:

  • Copy a short URL for the group and paste it in an email, blog, or website.
  • If your organization is configured to show social media links on item and group pages, click Facebook or X to share the group through your social media accounts.
  • Create a group app using a configurable template.
  • Embed the group items in a website.

Share a link to a group

To generate a short URL to link to a group page, complete the following steps:

  1. Open a group page.
  2. On the Overview tab, under Share with others, click Link to this group Link, and copy the provided short URL to share the group through email, instant message, or other media.

Optionally, copy the URL that appears in the web browser address bar and paste it into an email or website.

    Note:

When linking to publicly shared groups, it is best practice to use the public URL to ensure those outside your organization can view your group. Short URLs are generated from the public URL.

Embed a group

You can use ArcGIS Instant Apps to embed a group in a website, blog, or other platform. Embedding a group-based app allows you to showcase curated content, such as maps and apps, to users outside of your organization.

To embed a group-based app using ready-to-use HTML code, do the following:

  1. Verify that you are signed in to your organization.

Your account must be a member of the default administrator role or a custom role assigned the set of privileges to create and share content.

  2. Click Groups at the top of the site and use the tabs, filters, sort options, and search as needed to find the group you want to embed. Click the name of the group to open its group page.
  3. Verify that the group is shared with everyone (public).
  4. On the Overview tab, click Create app using Instant Apps and create an app.
  5. Choose from the Category Gallery, Gallery, or Atlas templates.
  6. In the configuration window, click Share on the vertical toolbar.
  7. Click Copy in the Embed section Embed map.
  8. Paste the code into your website where you want the group to appear.
