You can share any scene you or others create by sending an email with a link, posting it to your Facebook, X, or LinkedIn account, embedding it in a website or blog, or creating an app from the scene.
Share a scene
To share a scene, complete the following steps:
- Verify that you are signed in to your organization.
Your account must be a member of the default administrator role or a custom role assigned the set of privileges to share content.
- Open a saved scene in Scene Viewer and click
Share
. - Click the Share tab and do any of the following:
- Click Copy
to copy the URL and paste it into a blog or website address. - Check the Short link check box to generate a short URL to link to the scene.
- If you have configured slides, check the Start at slide check box to type in the slide number at which the scene opens.
- Check the Open in presentation mode check box for the scene to open in presentation mode.
- Click the email, Facebook, X, or LinkedIn buttons to share the scene over social media.
- Click Copy
When you share a scene, the layer settings and basemap from the last save are retained, and the camera position before you clicked Share
is preserved. When you check the Start at slide check box, the camera position is determined by the slide. This allows you to share and embed scenes that open at specific locations. For example, if you have a city scene displaying zoning, you can share a link that opens to that location with the same layer settings and camera position.
Share a link to a scene
To generate a short URL to link to a scene, complete the following steps:
- Open a scene in Scene Viewer.
- Click Share, and use the provided short URL to share the scene through email, instant message, and so on. Alternatively, copy the URL that appears in the web browser address bar and paste it into an email or website.
Note:
When linking to publicly shared items, the best practice is to use the public URL to ensure those outside your organization can view your items. Short URLs are generated from the public URL.
For those recipients with whom the scene has been shared, clicking the URL opens the scene in Scene Viewer. If the scene has not been shared with a recipient, the recipient will not have access to the scene.
Embed a scene
To embed a public scene you've opened in Scene Viewer, copy the ready-to-use HTML code and paste it into your website. You can configure the embedded view of the scene before copying the code, choose the size of the scene, and select scene options.
To embed a scene, complete the following steps:
- Verify that you are signed in to your organization.
Your account must be a member of the default administrator role or a custom role assigned the privilege to share content publicly. Your organization must also allow public sharing.

If the Short link check box is checked, the short URL will be used in the HTML code.
Note:
When linking to publicly shared items, the best practice is to use the public URL to ensure those outside your organization can view your items. Short URLs are generated from the public URL.
- Paste the code into your web page where you want the scene to appear.
The scene is embedded.
Considerations for sharing scenes
Keep the following in mind when sharing scenes:
- Scene Viewer will warn you if the scene or any of the layers in the scene are not shared with the public. If you want your scene to be accessible to the public, you must share the layers and scene with everyone.
- Most ArcGIS Living Atlas layers are free to use in scenes and can be viewed by anyone. However, some of the layers require an organizational account to view and, in some cases, consume credits and require privileges. These layers are identified in the item details.
- To share a scene publicly that contains subscriber content or premium content, you can create a scene-based app and configure it to allow access to the content through your organizational subscription. (Your subscription will incur any credit costs.)
