Overview
The Slope Reclassify (Degrees) For HLZ Suitability function uses generic DEM (digital elevation model) raster data to determine if elevation changes in an area can support helicopter landing zone (HLZ) operations. The resulting data shows areas that are classified as Acceptable or Acceptable With Caution for a helicopter to land based on slope only.
Notes
The input elevation Raster parameter value is first clipped to the Clipping Geometry/Raster parameter value to reduce the data to be analyzed. The subset is then converted to degrees slope. Finally slope is reclassified to Acceptable for 0 to 7 degrees or Acceptable With Caution for 7 to 15 degrees. All other values are removed as unacceptable.
This function uses slope criteria based on the United States Army Pathfinder Operations field manual FM 3-21.38, section 4-13 "Ground Slope."
