The Vertices tool is used to change the shape of a selected multipoint, line, or polygon feature by moving, adding, or deleting point locations or vertices.
Note:
You cannot undo a vertex edit. Once you move, add, or delete a vertex, changes are automatically saved.
Move a vertex
To move a vertex or single point in a multipoint feature, complete the following steps:
- Follow the steps to select a feature.
- To enable the Vertices tool, do one of the following:
- On the editing toolbar, click Vertices .
- Use the Alt+Shift+V shortcut for Windows or Option+Shift+V shortcut for Mac.
The vertices are displayed on the selected feature as orange dots. White circles also appear at the midpoints of the line segments or edges between the vertices.
- Turn on tooltips using one of the following options if necessary:
- On the general toolbar, click Snapping option and turn on Enable tooltips.
- Use the T shortcut on your keyboard.
Tooltips show the coordinates of the vertex.
- Select a vertex and do one of the following:
- Drag the vertex to a new location.
- Use the Tab shortcut on your keyboard and type the exact coordinate values.
- Click the Vertices button or clear the selection to finish editing vertices.
Add a vertex
To add a vertex or single point in a multipoint feature, complete the following steps:
- Follow the steps to select a feature.
- To enable the Vertices tool, do one of the following:
- On the editing toolbar, click Vertices .
- Use the Alt+Shift+V shortcut for Windows or Option+Shift+V shortcut for Mac.
The vertices are displayed on the selected feature as orange dots. White circles also appear at the midpoints of the line segments or edges between the vertices.
- Click the white circle on the line segment or edge where you want to add the vertex.
A new vertex is added to the feature.
- Select the vertex and move it to a new location if necessary.
- Click the Vertices button or clear the selection to finish editing vertices.
Delete a vertex
To delete a vertex or single point in a multipoint feature, complete the following steps:
- Follow the steps to select a feature.
- To enable the Vertices tool, do one of the following:
- On the editing toolbar, click Vertices .
- Use the Alt+Shift+V shortcut for Windows or Option+Shift+V shortcut for Mac.
The vertices are displayed on the selected feature as orange dots. White circles also appear at the midpoints of the line segments or edges between the vertices.
- To delete a vertex, do one of the following:
- Right-click a vertex.
- Select a vertex and press Delete on your keyboard.
- Click the Vertices button or clear the selection to finish editing vertices.
