Use the ArcGIS for Teams search window to open maps, apps, and other ArcGIS content in Microsoft Teams. You can specify the type of content you want to search for, the sharing level of the content, and the search location—for example, My Content, My Organization, or ArcGIS Online. You can also refine the search to find the exact content you want.
If you sign in to your ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise account, you can search for private content from your organization.
If you do not sign in to an ArcGIS account, you can search public ArcGIS Online content.
Search for ArcGIS content from a personal scope
To search for ArcGIS content from a personal (private) scope in Microsoft Teams, complete the following steps:
- Click the pinned ArcGIS for Teams chat in your chat list to open ArcGIS for Teams in a personal scope.

You can also click the ArcGIS Maps button
on the Microsoft Teams toolbar to open the ArcGIS Maps search window.
- On the Chat tab, type a word or phrase into the chat message box.
A chat message appears, asking if you want to search for these keywords.
- Click Search.
The ArcGIS Maps search window appears. ArcGIS content that matches your keyword search is listed, including the item name and its content type, such as a map, a layer, or an app.
To refine the search, use the options in the ArcGIS Maps search window. The numbers in the following table correspond to the numbers in the image above.

Sign in
To search your ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise content, click Sign in and follow the prompts to access your ArcGIS account and content from your organization. You can sign out at any time.

Search location
If you are not signed in, you can search public ArcGIS Online content.
If you are signed in to your ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise account, you can search ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise content or private content filtered by the My Content, My Organization, or My Groups options.

Filter content types
Click the Filter button
to set the type of content to locate. You can search all content types or search only for maps, scenes, layers, files, or apps.

Refine content types
You can limit the types of layers, files, and apps returned to narrow the search results. For example, you can refine a layer search to return only feature, tile, map image, imagery, or scene layers, or tables.

Use advanced options
Click the Filter button
described in callout 2 and expand Advanced options. All available content is shown by default. Choose a created date range or a modified date range using the Calendar button
to limit search results by time period.
If you are signed in to your ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise account, you can also choose an audience for the content you are searching, such as shared with an organization or with everyone (public).
As you refine the search parameters, the search results update automatically.
- To see details about an item before opening it, click its Information button
.
Hover over an item in the search results to see the Information button

The item Information window appears. It contains details such as the item description, the owner's ArcGIS username, and the dates the item was created and most recently updated.
- Choose an item from the search results list and click Post.
The item card posts into the chat.
- Click Open on the item card to view the item.
Items open in ArcGIS for Teams based on the item's privacy settings and whether you are signed in to an ArcGIS account.
- If you are not signed in to an ArcGIS account, most public content opens in a browser in the software native to the file type (such as .csv), or on the ArcGIS Maps Viewer tab. For example, a story that is shared with everyone typically opens on the ArcGIS Maps Viewer tab.
- If you are signed in to your ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise account, content typically opens on the ArcGIS Maps Viewer tab provided that the item's privacy settings allow sharing.

Search for ArcGIS content from a chat, meeting, or team
To search for ArcGIS content from a chat, meeting, or team in Microsoft Teams, complete the following steps:
- In Microsoft Teams, browse to the chat, meeting, or team where you want to share ArcGIS for Teams content.
Ensure that you previously installed ArcGIS for Teams into the chat, meeting, or team.
- On the Chat tab, type @ArcGIS Maps <keyword or phrase> in the chat message box.
Accept the prompt from Microsoft Teams to choose ArcGIS Maps as the message recipient.
A chat message appears, asking if you want to search for these keywords.
- Click Search.
The ArcGIS Maps search window appears.
You can also open the ArcGIS Maps search window from the Settings option on the ArcGIS Maps tab drop-down menu in the chat, meeting, or team.
