Analytics created in ArcGIS Velocity can be shared with groups, the organization, and everyone.

Share an analytic

Real-time and big data analytics can be shared in ArcGIS Velocity and ArcGIS Online.

Share an analytic in ArcGIS Velocity

To share an analytic in Velocity, complete the following steps:

  1. Open ArcGIS Velocity and sign in.
  2. Click Real-Time or Big Data from the menu on the left.
  3. Open an existing real-time or big data analytic and click the Share button.
  4. In the Share pop-up, share the analytic with your organization, specific groups, everyone, or some combination of the three.
  5. Toggle the Share all properties parameter if you want to share all properties with other users.
    Note:
    Choosing to share all properties will share the username, headers, URLs, and POST body (except passwords and secret keys) with other users. If you choose not to share all properties, sensitive information such as the username, password, secret keys, headers, POST body, URLs, and more is removed. This ensures that you do not unintentionally share sensitive information such as credentials and API keys to other users.
  6. Click the Apply button to share the analytic.

The analytic is now discoverable by other users in ArcGIS Online and it can be opened in Velocity, allowing other user the ability to view it or use it as a template for a new analytic.

Share an analytic in ArcGIS Online

To share an analytic in ArcGIS Online, complete the following steps:

  1. Open ArcGIS Online and sign in.
  2. Browse to the Contents page.
  3. Check the checkbox next to the analytics you want to share and click the Share button.
  4. In the Share pop-up, choose to share the analytic with your organization, specific groups, everyone, or some combination of the three.
  5. Click the Save button to share the analytic.

Other users can now search for and find the analytic in ArcGIS Online and open it in Velocity to view it or use it as a template.

Open a shared analytic

Real-time and big data analytics that are shared with you can be opened in ArcGIS Online or by using a URL.

Open shared analytic in ArcGIS Online

Both real-time and big data analytics are item types that you can interact with in ArcGIS Online. Analytics can be shared with a group, your organization, or everyone. When you find an analytic that has been shared with you, through search, browsing, or viewing group content, click Open in ArcGIS Velocity to view it in Velocity.

Note:

If your organization has an active Velocity subscription, and you have sufficient privileges to create elements in Velocity, you can open a shared analytic.

Open a share analytic using a URL

An analytic can be shared to other users in the organization or other organizations using a URL by completing the following steps:

  1. Open ArcGIS Velocity and sign in.
  2. Open an existing real-time or big data analytic and click the Share button.
  3. In the Share pop-up, share the analytic with your organization, specific groups, everyone, or some combination of the three.
  4. Click the Apply button to share the analytic.
  5. Copy the URL of the analytic (for example, https://velocity.arcgis.com/bigdata/2f6553d460ca4d27b77ffc8ef30d1fc1).
  6. Share the URL with others users.

Clone and share an analytic

Real-time and big data analytics can be cloned and shared to other users in your organization. A cloned analytic preserves any configured elements such as feeds, sources, tools, and outputs. An analytic that is cloned and shared to other users does not include sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, API keys, and other properties. You can clone and share an analytic by completing the steps below:

  1. Open ArcGIS Velocity and sign in.
  2. Open an existing real-time or big data analytic and click the Clone button.
  3. In the Clone Analytic popup, type values for the Title and Summary parameters.
  4. For the Folder parameter, choose an existing folder or create a new folder.
  5. Click the Clone button to make a copy of the analytic. Note that the clones analytic preserves all properties including credentials, API keys, and more.
  6. Open ArcGIS Online, select the cloned analytic item and change the ownership to a new user.

The user can now view the analytic in Velocity. The analytic configuration is preserved and the user can view, edit, start, and stop the shared analytic as the owner.

Sharing considerations and limitations

Real-time and big data analytics contain elements such as feeds, sources, tools, and outputs. When other users open a shared analytic, not all properties and details of the analytic are shown. Sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, keys, headers, POST body, URLs, and other properties are not available. This ensures any API keys and other sensitive information is not shared.

When an owner shares an analytic, by default, the Share all properties toggle button is turned off and any sensitive information is removed. This ensures information such as credentials, API keys, and other sensitive information is not shared. As a result, when creating a new analytic from a shared analytic, other users will typically need to update any sources and outputs by entering usernames, headers, passwords, and URLs. Turning on the Share all properties toggle button lets you share the username, headers, URLs, and POST body with other users. The passwords and secret keys will not be shared.

When sharing an analytic with other Velocity users, they can view the general configuration of the analytic and use the analytic as a template to create their own analytic. Only an owner can edit an analytic, sharing an analytic with other users does not give them permissions to edit the shared analytic. Users can create a new analytic from a shared analytic by clicking Create Analytic to save it as a new analytic item that they own.

Only users of an ArcGIS Online organization with an active ArcGIS Velocity subscription can open shared analytics. Additionally, users must have sufficient user types and role privileges to work with analytic items.
