Manage alerts

You can view and manage alerts and their status and state on the Alerts page.

View alerts and their details

To view an alert's details page, its metrics, and its comments, complete the following steps:

  1. Access ArcGIS Monitor if necessary.
  2. Click Alerts.

    The Alerts page appears with a list of metrics with alerts and the following status indicators:

    Status: Info

    There is an open info alert.

    This may require further investigation.

    Warning

    Status: Warning

    There is an open warning alert.

    This requires further investigation.

    Critical

    Status: Critical

    There is an open critical alert.

    This requires immediate investigation.

  3. Optionally, do any or all of the following:
    • Click a category on the side of the page to filter the list by that category.
    • Click Sort and change the sorting method.
    • Click Filter and create a query to filter the list.
    • Click Columns and specify the columns to show and hide.
    • Position the pointer at the edge of a column's header and drag the column's edge to resize it.
    • Click Labels to filter the list by the labels that you choose.
    • Type a keyword in the Search by component or metric name text box to search for specific alerts.
  4. Optionally, click an alert's status button to display a pop-up with a chart that contains the metric's most recent data values.
  5. Click the name of the alert with the details you want to view.

    The alert's details page appears with information about the alert and its associated comments.

  6. Optionally, click the Filter by date drop-down arrow, choose a predefined time range or use the date picker to define a custom time range, and click Apply to constrain the alert's data to the chosen time range.

Add comments to an alert

You can add comments to alerts to provide status updates and more information specific to an alert. You must be assigned the Administrator or Manager role to add comments to alerts.

To add a comment to an alert, complete the following steps:

  1. Access Monitor if necessary.
  2. Click Alerts.

    The Alerts page appears with a list of alerts sorted chronologically.

  3. Optionally, do any or all of the following:
    • Click a category on the side of the page to filter the list by that category.
    • Click Sort and change the sorting method.
    • Click Filter and create a query to filter the list.
    • Click Columns and specify the columns to show and hide.
    • Position the pointer at the edge of a column's header and drag the column's edge to resize it.
    • Click Labels to filter the list by the labels that you choose.
    • Type a keyword in the Search by component or metric name text box to search for specific alerts.
  4. Click More options More options in the row of the alert to which you want to add a comment and click Add comment.

    A dialog box appears with a list of alert comments.

    Tip:

    You can also click the Comments link in the Comments column to add a comment and view a list of the alert's comments.

  5. Type a comment in the Leave a comment text box.
  6. Click Comment.

    The comment appears in the list.

  7. Close the dialog box to return to the Alerts page.

Change the state of an alert

When an alert is created, its initial state is set to pending. Once it's reviewed, its state can be set to acknowledged, and when it's resolved, the state can be set to resolved. You must be assigned the Administrator or Manager role to change the state of an alert.

To change the state of an alert, complete the following steps:

  1. Access Monitor if necessary.
  2. Click Alerts.

    The Alerts page appears with a list of alerts sorted chronologically.

  3. Optionally, do any or all of the following:
    • Click a category on the side of the page to filter the list by that category.
    • Click Sort and change the sorting method.
    • Click Filter and create a query to filter the list.
    • Click Columns and specify the columns to show and hide.
    • Position the pointer at the edge of a column's header and drag the column's edge to resize it.
    • Click Labels to filter the list by the labels that you choose.
    • Type a keyword in the Search by component or metric name text box to search for specific alerts.
  4. Click More options More options for the alert that you want to update and click Edit alert state.

    The Edit state dialog box appears.

  5. Click the Alert state drop-down arrow and choose one of the following options:
    • Pending—The alert is in its initial state and has not yet been acknowledged.
    • Acknowledged—The alert was identified, and work is being performed to resolve the issue.
    • Resolved—The alert has been resolved.
  6. Click Save.

    The alert's state is updated.

Add an alert to your favorites

You can add alerts that you want to closely monitor to your favorites and instantly access them using the Favorites category filter on the Alerts page.

To add an alert to your favorites, complete the following steps:

  1. Access Monitor if necessary.
  2. Click the Alerts tab.

    The Alerts page appears with a list of alerts sorted chronologically.

  3. Optionally, do any or all of the following:
    • Click a category on the side of the page to filter the list by that category.
    • Click Sort and change the sorting method.
    • Click Filter and create a query to filter the list.
    • Click Columns and specify the columns to show and hide.
    • Position the pointer at the edge of a column's header and drag the column's edge to resize it.
    • Click Labels to filter the list by the labels that you choose.
    • Type a keyword in the Search by component or metric name text box to search for specific alerts.
  4. Click Add to favorites Add to favorites next to the alert you want to add to your favorites list.
    Tip:

    To remove an alert from your favorites list, click Remove from favorites Remove from favorites next to the alert.
