Deploy the Esri Maps for MicroStrategy server plug-in

The Esri Maps for MicroStrategy server plug-in allows you to integrate your MicroStrategy business intelligence (BI) data with the ArcGIS platform. In the context of this topic, the ArcGIS platform refers to ArcGIS Online (available at www.arcgis.com) or to an on-premises Portal for ArcGIS (available through a URL specific to your organization).

The Esri Maps for MicroStrategy server plug-in is delivered to you in an ISO image containing two folders: an asp folder for IIS deployments and a jsp folder for all JavaServer Pages deployments. Each of these folders contains a folder namedem4mstr. When deploying to a Windows operating system, use an ISO image mounting program to view the ISO image file as a virtual disk (for example, Virtual CloneDrive). For instructions on mounting the ISO image file on a Linux-based system, see the administration documentation for your operating system.

Note:

It is recommended that this installation be performed by your organization's web administrator.

To deploy the Esri Maps for MicroStrategy server plug-in, complete the following steps:

  1. Copy the appropriate em4mstr folder from the ISO image to the MicroStrategy Web plugins folder.
    Note:

When reinstalling or upgrading the Esri Maps for MicroStrategy plug-in, ensure that all old plug-in folders are removed from the MicroStrategy Web plug-ins folder.

For Active Server Pages (ASP.NET) installations (IIS), this folder is located in your MicroStrategy Web installation directory. The default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\MicroStrategy\Web ASPx\plugins.

For all JavaServer Pages (JSP) web application installations of MicroStrategy Web Universal, the plug-ins folder is located in the location where the web application server extracted the MicroStrategy war file. For example, when installing in a default Tomcat web application installation, the default directory is <Tomcat>/webapps/MicroStrategy/plugins/.

  2. Restart your web application server.
  3. From a supported web browser, start MicroStrategy Web.

Esri Maps for MicroStrategy is now available in MicroStrategy Web as a DHTML widget in documents and as a custom visualization in reports.
