Know Your Zone can be used to share evacuation zone information established to help residents evacuate when an emergency or incident occurs.
The frequency and intensity of emergencies has increased and so has the impact on communities. As a result, pre-established evacuation zones and protective actions such as evacuating, sheltering in place have become more important to emergency management operations.
When a storm or wildland fire is approaching, local officials will determine which zones are threatened and who should evacuate. Typically, emergency managers will not evacuate every zone and will work with local media to notify appropriate residents. Implementing a location-based approach and using maps to communicate protective actions will minimize unnecessary travel, ease overcrowding at local shelters, and increase public safety.
The Know Your Zone solution delivers a set of capabilities that help emergency management agencies share essential evacuation zone information with residents.
