Get started

In this workflow, you will download sample data, deploy the Sewer Utility Network Foundation, install Utility Network Package tools, and configure your project. Performing these steps will prepare you for the remaining data migration workflows.

Get the data

To complete this tutorial, you must first download several items.

Download sample source data

To download the required data, complete the following steps:

  1. Go to the data download page.
  2. Click Download and save the file locally.
  3. Unzip the downloaded file.

Deploy the solution

To deploy the Sewer Utility Network Foundation solution, complete the following steps:

Note:
Skip this section if you have already deployed and downloaded the Sewer Utility Network Foundation solution.

  1. Sign in to your ArcGIS Online account.
  2. After signing in, deploy the solution.
  3. Click the Sewer Utility Network Foundation tile to open the item page.
  4. Scroll to Solution Contents and click Sewer Utility Network Essentials.
    The item opens in a new tab.
  5. Click the Sewer Utility Network Essentials item.
  6. Click Download.
    The item downloads to your local machine.
  7. Return to the Sewer Utility Network Foundation solution item browser tab.
  8. Under Solution Contents, click Sewer Utility Network Expanded.
    The item page opens in a new tab.
  9. Click Download.

    The item downloads to your local machine.

  10. Extract both downloaded items to the local directory you will be working from.

Install the Utility Network Package toolbox

The Utility Network Package toolbox contains tools to simplify the configuration and export of a utility network. To install the tools, complete the following steps:

Note:
Skip this step if the Utility Network Package toolbox (untools) is already installed.

  1. Start ArcGIS Pro and click Settings Settings.
  2. On the left, click Package Manager.
  3. In the upper right, click the Environment Manager button Manage.
  4. In the Environment Manager dialog box, locate the environment you want to clone and click the Clone environment button Duplicate. Alternatively, click the Clone arcgispro-py3 button Define New Region to clone the default environment.

  5. Click the Browse button and browse to a folder to store the new environment. Alternatively, click the Destination text box and edit the default name and path.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Select the newly created environment and click the Refresh button Refresh to update the list of available packages.
  8. Click the Active Environment drop-down arrow, and select the cloned environment.
    An environment is created. Next, you will install the tools.
  9. At the top of the Package Manager window, click Add Packages to see the python packages that can be installed.
  10. In the Search text box, type untools to install the Utility Network Package toolbox.
  11. Select untools from the list, and on the right, click Install.
  12. In the Install Package dialog box, review the terms and conditions, check the check box to agree, and click Install.
  13. After the installation is complete, exit ArcGIS Pro.

    The next time you start ArcGIS Pro, you can access the Utility Network Package toolbox from the Geoprocessing pane under the Toolboxes tab.

Tip:
If you are unable to install the tools through the Package Manager, try following the steps using the Python Command Prompt.

Prepare the project

To prepare the Sewer Utility Network Essentials project, complete the following steps:

  1. Browse to the directory where you unzipped the Sewer Utility Network Essentials item.
  2. Double-click the Sewer Utility Network Essentials.aprx file to open it in ArcGIS Pro.
  3. In the Catalog pane, right-click Folders Folders and click Add Folder Connection Add Folder Connection.
  4. Browse to the Sewer Utility Network Expanded folder and select it.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Repeat this process to add the Source_Data and Working_Data folders that were extracted from the sample source data download.
  7. On the Insert tab, in the Project group, click New Map.

You can now proceed to the Generate data mapping workflow.
