View observers

Observers are responsible for collecting attribute and metric data for registered components and their subcomponents. A component’s observers run at specified intervals and each component type has a unique set of observers designated to monitor the critical aspects of the component.

View observers for individual components

To view a complete list of observers associated with a component on the component's Observers page, complete the following steps:

  1. Access Monitor if necessary.

    The Home page appears.

  2. Click Monitoring.

    The Monitoring page appears with registered components listed alphabetically by name.

  3. Optionally, do any or all of the following:
    • Click a category on the side of the page to filter the list by that category.
    • Click Sort and change the sorting method.
    • Click Filter and create a query to filter the list.
    • Click Columns and specify the columns to hide or show.
    • Position the pointer at the edge of a column's header and drag the column's edge to resize it.
    • Click Labels to filter the list by the labels that you choose.
    • Type a keyword in the Search by component name or address text box to search for specific components.
  4. Click the name of the component that contains the observers you want to view.

    The component's Overview page appears with component details and an overview of its metrics.

  5. Click the Observers tab.

    A list of the component's observers appears with the following status indicators displayed next to each observer:

    Incident active

    Status: Incident active

    There is an active incident and monitoring is paused.

    Monitoring off

    Status: Monitoring off

    The observer is turned off.

    No data

    Status: No data

    The observer failed to collect data.

    Nominal

    Status: Nominal

    The observer ran successfully.

    Info

    Status: Info

    The observer returned an info-level diagnostic log entry.

    Warning

    Status: Warning

    The observer returned a warning-level diagnostic log entry.

    Critical

    Status: Critical

    The observer returned a critical-level diagnostic log entry.

  6. Optionally, do any or all of the following:
    • Click Sort and change the sorting method.
    • Click Filter and create a query to filter the list.
    • Click Columns and specify the columns to hide or show.
    • Position the pointer at the edge of a column's header and drag the column's edge to resize it.
    • Type a keyword in the Search by observer name text box to search for specific observers.
  7. Click the name of an observer to view more information about it, including its interval.

View observers associated with an ArcGIS Monitor Agent machine

To view observers associated with a specific Monitor Agent machine, complete the following steps:

  1. Access ArcGIS Monitor if necessary.

    The Home page appears.

  2. Click Monitoring.

    The Monitoring page appears with registered components listed alphabetically by name.

  3. Click the Agents tab.

    The Agents page appears with a list of Monitor Agent machines.

  4. Optionally, do any or all of the following:
    • Click Sort and change the sorting method.
    • Click Filter and create a query to filter the list.
    • Click Columns and specify the columns to hide or show.
    • Position the pointer at the edge of a column's header and drag the column's edge to resize it.
    • Type a keyword in the Search by agent name text box to search for specific Monitor Agent machines.
  5. Click the name of the Monitor Agent machine that contains the observers that you want to view.

    The Monitor Agent machine's Overview page appears with its details and an overview of its components' metrics.

  6. Click the Observers tab.

    The Observers page appears with a list of observers associated with the Monitor Agent machine and the following status indicators displayed next to each observer:

View observers for all registered components

To view observers for all registered components on the Monitoring page, complete the following steps:

  1. Access ArcGIS Monitor if necessary.

    The Home page appears.

  2. Click Monitoring.

    The Monitoring page appears with registered components listed alphabetically by name.

  3. Click the Observers tab.

    The Observers page appears with a list of observers for all registered components and the following status indicators displayed next to each observer:

    There is an active incident and monitoring is paused.

    Monitoring off

    Status: Monitoring off

    The observer is turned off.

    No data

    Status: No data

    The observer failed to collect data.
