Configure map settings and tools

You can easily configure the way in which the map, related data, and tools are displayed.

Map and data settings you can modify include banner color, selection color, and fonts. You can configure Infographics by specifying which data variables are displayed. You can also enable or disable specific tools, such as the overview map, and specify default values and units for some tools, such as the Measure tool.

Configure map and data display settings

Change the default map and data settings from the General tab of the Configure pane.

  1. From the Advanced menu, choose Configure.
  2. Choose the General tab.
  3. Do any of the following to change the default display settings:
    • To change the color used to highlight selected features on the map, choose a new color from the Selection color drop-down menu.
    • To change the way data is formatted in pop-ups and other places in the map by default, select the formats you want from the Percentage, Currency, Number, and Date drop-down menus.
    • To choose different theme colors and fonts for the map, choose the options you want from the Banner, Banner text, Menu, Menu text, and Default font drop-down menus.
  4. Press OK to save your changes.

Configure Infographics

Interactive pop-up Infographics provide rich contextual information about locations in a map. If your organization's administrator has enabled Infographics, you can choose to enable them in a report. When report consumers press the Infographics button in a pop-up, ArcGIS aggregates the demographics around the selected location on the map and delivers information such as age distribution and income for a set distance around the location. Many different types of Infographics, ranging from age pyramids to bar charts, can be accessed in Esri Maps for MicroStrategy.

Information is displayed in a carousel of configurable Infographics. Each Infographic shows the distribution of one variable around the chosen location. A few Infographics are turned on by default and can be scrolled through by pressing the arrows beside them. Infographic variables can easily be added to or removed from the carousel on the Infographics tab of the Configure pane.

  1. From the Advanced menu, choose Configure.
  2. Choose the Infographics tab.
  3. To change the country for which to display Infographics variables, choose the country you want from the Show available data for drop-down menu.
  4. To change the default theme color for Infographics, choose the theme you want from the Select color theme drop-down menu.
  5. To specify the variables to include in the Infographics carousel, check the check boxes for the data collections containing the variables you want to display. Uncheck the check boxes for those you don't want to display.
  6. To include additional data variables from ArcGIS in the Infographics carousel, do the following:
    1. Press Add more individual variables.
    2. Choose a data collection to explore the variables it contains.
    3. Check the check boxes for the variables you want to include in the Infographics.
    4. Press OK to close the collection.
    5. Repeat steps 6b through 6d to add more variables.
  7. Define the area for which you want to display information:
    1. From the Show data for drop-down menu, choose Ring, Drive Times, or Drive Distance. The Ring option returns information from a circle around the selected location. The Drive Times option returns information from an area within a specified driving time of the selected location. The Drive Distance option returns information from an area within a specified driving distance of the selected location.
    2. Change the default values as desired for the option you specified in the previous step. For Ring, you can change the radius and units. For Drive Times, you can change the time in minutes. For Drive Distance, you can change the distance and units of linear measurement.
  8. Press OK to save your changes.
