Use Social Equity Analysis

The Social Equity Analysis solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you understand community characteristics, analyze community conditions and actions, and generate an equity analysis index that can be used to educate internal and external stakeholders.

In this topic, you’ll learn how to use the solution by assuming the role of a user and performing the workflows below.

Evaluate conditions and actions

To load and normalize community asset, condition or outcome data with the Social Equity Analysis project. Use the tasks to summarize and load data into your reporting areas spatially.

You will assume the role of an equity analyst. You are asked to use the Social Equity Analysis project to analyze and normalize community asset, condition or outcome data in relation to your reporting areas.

  1. Sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Social Equity Analysis Desktop Application Template.
  2. Open the item page and click Download.
  3. Unzip and open the Social Equity Analysis ArcGIS Pro project.
  4. Open the Social Equity Analysis ArcGIS Pro Project.
  5. On the View tab, in the Windows group, click Catalog Pane
  6. In the Catalog pane, expand the Tasks folder, and double-click the Social Equity Analysis task.
  7. In the Tasks pane, click the Evaluate Conditions and Actions task group to expand the collection of tasks.
  8. In the Tasks pane, double-click the Prepare community asset, condition and outcome data task and follow the steps provided.

Identify community characteristics

Community characteristics and community asset, condition or outcome rates can be used to identify areas of focus quickly using the Social Equity Analysis project. These tools have been designed to be flexible in order to analyze many different variables and equity scenarios.

You will continue to assume the role of an equity analyst. You are asked to use the Social Equity Analysis project to identify areas of need.

  1. On the View tab, in the Windows group, click Catalog Pane.
  2. In the Catalog pane, expand the Tasks folder, and double-click the Social Equity Analysis task.
  3. In the Tasks pane, expand the Tasks folder, click the Identify Community Characteristics task group to expand the collection of tasks.
  4. In the Tasks pane, double click the Prepare community characteristic data task, and follow the steps provided.

Create equity analysis index

To find the areas of most need with the Social Equity Analysis project. Use the previously generated focus populations and community condition rate data to identify and rank community need for your reporting areas.

You will continue to assume the role of an equity analyst. You are asked to use the Social Equity Analysis project to find reporting areas of highest need.

  1. Open the Social Equity Analysis ArcGIS Pro Project.
  2. On the View tab, in the Windows group, click Catalog Pane
  3. In the Catalog pane, expand the Tasks folder, and double-click the Social Equity Analysis task.
  4. In the Tasks pane, click the Create Equity Analysis Index task group to expand the collection of tasks.
  5. In the Tasks pane, double-click the Create equity analysis index map task and follow the steps provided.

Evaluate asset locations

To find the best potential asset locations with the Social Equity Analysis project. Use the previously generated Equity Analysis Index and a list of potential asset locations to analyze new asset locations in your community by travel time.

You will continue to assume the role of an equity analyst. You are asked to use the Social Equity Analysis project to select the best potential asset locations from a list of candidate sites that meet needs defined in the Evaluate Conditions and Actions task group.

  1. Open the Social Equity Analysis ArcGIS Pro Project.
  2. On the View tab, in the Windows group, click Catalog Pane
  3. In the Catalog pane, expand the Tasks folder, and double-click the Social Equity Analysis task.
  4. In the Tasks pane, click the Evaluate Asset Locations task group to expand the collection of tasks.
  5. In the Tasks pane, double-click the Evaluate coverage and existing asset locations by travel time task and follow the steps provided.
  6. Double-click the Identify candidate asset locations task and follow the steps provided.
  7. Double-click the Select new asset locations task and follow the steps provided.

Explore community need

Once the Equity Analysis Index is created, it can be shared with stakeholders via a web mapping application. This app can be used to see how need is distributed across the community

You will assume the role of an internal or external stakeholder. You are asked to use the Equity Analysis Index app to explore need in the community.

  1. Sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Equity Analysis Index app.
  2. Open the item page and click View Application.
  3. Search for an address or click a reporting area on the map.

    A popup will display showing the Equity Rank Score and details for the given area.

  4. Review other communities and examine how need is distributed across the region.
  5. The Information tab displays details regarding the map.
  6. Click the Share icon to copy a link or share the app on social media.
