Edit tables in Map Viewer

If the owner of an editable table layer shares the layer with you, you can add the layer to Map Viewer and edit the attribute values.

Tip:

The layer owner, organization administrators, and members of shared update groups with which the layer is shared can edit a hosted feature layer or table layer's contents even when editing is not enabled on the layer. The only exception to this is if editing is disabled for specific fields in the layer; no one can edit those.

Edit field values

You can edit values in a table layer and in the attribute table of a feature layer. See Edit features for instructions to update values in the attribute table of a feature layer.

To edit values in a table layer in Map Viewer, complete the following steps:

  1. Confirm that you are signed in and, if you want to save your changes, that you have privileges to create, update, and delete content.

    Note:
You can explore maps, add and configure layers, and more without signing in. To save your work, sign in before creating a map.

  2. In Map Viewer, open the map containing the layer, or add the layer directly.
  3. To add a row (record) to the table, click Create record, and in the Edit feature pane, use the form to define the row's attributes, and click Create to save your changes.
  4. To edit values in an existing row, do either of the following:
    • Double-click in the cell that contains the value you want to edit, and type a value, or, if the field is configured to provide a list of values, choose the correct value from the drop-down menu. To delete the value when there is a list, choose empty. Press Enter to save your changes.
    • Click Edit record Edit record next to the cell that contains the value you want to edit, and in the Edit feature pane, use the form to update the record's attributes, and click Update to save your changes. Click Delete to delete the record from the table.

Add related photos and files

Feature and table layers can include related photos or other files as attachments. If the layer owner has enabled attachments on the layer and you have privileges to edit features, you can attach related photos and files to records in the table.

Note:

The files you add as attachments must be smaller than 10 MB.

For instructions to add attachments to feature layers in Map Viewer, see Edit features.

To add and manage photos and files associated with a table layer, complete the following steps:

  1. In Map Viewer, open the map containing the layer or add the layer directly.

The table opens at the bottom of the map.

  2. Find the record for which you want to view attachments. Optionally, select rows in the table by checking the check box at the start of each row, and click Show selected Show selected.
  3. In the Attachments column, click a cell to view the attachments for that record and do any of the following:
    Note:

You may need to scroll to see the Attachments column.

    • Click Add attachment, click Select file, browse to the file to attach, click Open, and click Add attachment to attach the file to a record.
    • Select one or more attachments, and click Delete to delete the selected attachments.
    • Click Download attachment Download attachment to download the attachment.
    • Click View attachment View attachment to see attachment details and do any of the following:
      • Click Download attachment to download the attachment.
      • Click Replace to replace the file with a different attachment.
      • Click Delete to delete an individual attachment.
      • For photo attachments, click Maximize to maximize the attachment view.
        Tip:

If there are two or more photos associated with the record, you can page through them in the maximized attachment view. Click View details to return to the detailed view of the current attachment. Click Close to return to the detailed view of the attachment from which you launched the maximized view.
