When a data reference is associated with a workflow diagram, the data reference is automatically validated by ArcGIS Workflow Manager and can be accessed and managed on the Data References tab.
Access data reference details
To access a data reference's details, complete the following steps:
- Access the Workflow Manager web app.
- Click the Design tab.
The Design page appears.
Note:
If you don't have sufficient privileges, the Design tab is not available.
- Click Diagrams
.
The Workflow Diagrams panel and workflow canvas appear.
- From the Workflow Diagrams panel, choose the workflow diagram that contains the data references that you want to access.
The Step Library and Diagram panels appear with the workflow diagram in the workflow canvas.
- Click the Data References tab.
A list of data references associated with the workflow diagram appear in the Data References panel.
Tip:
You can search for a data reference based on the reference type, capability, data reference ID, item ID, stand-alone geoprocessing URL, alias, or ArcGIS Pro item name.
- Click Options
next to the data reference that you want to access.
The Data Reference card appears with details about the item's environment, data type, validation status, and capabilities.
Tip:
The Data Reference card contains the reference ID that can be used with dynamic job properties. Click Copy reference ID
to copy the reference ID to the clipboard.

To re-validate all data references and update messages, click Valdiate All.

Edit a data reference
To edit a data reference, complete the following steps:
- Access the Workflow Manager web app.
- Click the Design tab.
The Design page appears.

If you don't have sufficient privileges, the Design tab is not available.
- Click Diagrams
.
The Workflow Diagrams panel and workflow canvas appear.
- From the Workflow Diagrams panel, choose the workflow diagram that contains the data references that you want to access.
The Step Library and Diagram panels appear with the workflow diagram in the workflow canvas.
- Click the Data References tab.
A list of data references associated with the workflow diagram appear in the Data References panel.
Tip:
You can search for a data reference based on the reference type, capability, data reference ID, item ID, stand-alone geoprocessing URL, alias, or ArcGIS Pro item name.
- Click Edit.
The Edit data reference dialog box appears.
- Update the data reference's properties as necessary.
- Click OK to save changes or click Cancel to exit.
Delete a data reference
To delete a data reference from all associated steps, complete the following steps:
- Access the Workflow Manager web app.
- Click the Design tab.
The Design page appears.

If you don't have sufficient privileges, the Design tab is not available.
- Click Diagrams
.
The Workflow Diagrams panel and workflow canvas appear.
- From the Workflow Diagrams panel, choose the workflow diagram that contains the data references that you want to access.
The Step Library and Diagram panels appear with the workflow diagram in the workflow canvas.
- Click the Data References tab.
A list of data references associated with the workflow diagram appear in the Data References panel.
Tip:
You can search for a data reference based on the reference type, capability, data reference ID, item ID, stand-alone geoprocessing URL, alias, or ArcGIS Pro item name.
- Click Options
next to the data reference that you want to access.
The Data Reference card appears with information about the data reference's environment, data type, validation status, and capabilities.
- Click Delete
.
- Click Yes to remove the data reference or click No to cancel.
- Update steps that were using the data reference with a new or existing data reference.
